Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

In this discussion about lore on the PDK - To me this does not seem like a subclass driven by a change in Lore at all. Here is what I think happened in the original subclass: 1. People don't like the the 2014 PDK 2. Why don't we have them ride dragons, people will love that 3. Ok let's make it...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Except the Dragons in the area are not Amethyst Dragons and what do the Dragons get out of it. They would have no interest in said arms race. Let's also be clear that according to the UA subclass they were not allies, but more servants of the PDKs bred and raised from eggs (you could even say...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Yes it is. The Cormyr calvary (who are PDKs) ride Hippogriffs. That lore is clearly being "replaced". Also if PDK is designed to be a FR-wide faction now there is a problem with them all getting Dragons at level 3.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Sure, but why would it be Amethyst Dragons? That makes no sense

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I get this argument, but we are talking about the Forgotten Realms specifically. This is a Forgotten Realms book, not a generic D&D splatbook and while that may be the mental image for someone not familiar with the Lore it is not the image for anyone who is familiar with the Lore. Also while...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

This is so true. If you are looking for a generic knight subclass, Purple Dragon Knight is not it.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Just explain why it is specifically the Purple Dragon Knights that ride Dragons? Why THAT subclass ..... I mean why don't we make the Scion of the Dead Three the Dragon rider subclass? Moreover if we want a Dragon riding class why are we putting it in a setting-specific book that does not...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

To me this sounds like an excuse to make a Dragon rider subclass - putting the Lore in to support the subclass, not an evolution of the Lore. Also if it is an Evolution of the Lore why a purple Dragon? The prominent Dragons of Cormyr include Red, Gold, Black, Faerie Dragons and a Song...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

We are talking about a subclass specifically for the Forgotten Realms coming out in a Forgotten Realms themed book. IMO that makes the Lore pretty important. I don't think anyone had a problem with a cool Dragon riding subclass and you could even do that in the Forgotten Realms by tying it to...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

This is the best explanation I have seen on this. A Dragon riding fighter subclass would be cool. Using the Purple Dragon Knight for that subclass is stupid.

D&D 5E (2024) Dissonant Whispers vs Command in high level play on a melee character.

It is also not open ended any more. You can only use the commands in the spell description.

D&D 5E (2024) Dissonant Whispers vs Command in high level play on a melee character.

So I am debating which of these spells to get on a Eldritch Knight/Warlock at 15th level (11 EK/4 Warlock) as part of the Fey Touched feat. The Warlock uses a homebrew subclass that is not relevant. The idea is using Action Surge and Extra Attack and then using an action to cast either...

D&D 5E (2024) No way to end Rage on your turn with 2024 rules?

There are two issues with this. First it ends at the end of your turn. Under the previous rules I could use a bonus action to end it during the turn and then use an action on that same turn to cast a spell. Second making an attack of forcing a save also extends it another turn, so you can...

Forgotten Realms Books to Have Several Digital DLCs, Including One Featuring Asterion

It is a major distinction. 70 Million people die every single year worldwide, more than will die due to the effects of climate change over the entire 21st century (according to the WHO). Of the 7 Billion or so people that will die this century, less than 1 percent are scientifically expected...

Forgotten Realms Books to Have Several Digital DLCs, Including One Featuring Asterion

When it comes to good and evil I think forcing actions on another is certainly not "good" even when those actions are well intentioned and even if they are actually a matter of survival. Even if people's choice to eat meat does actually destroy our species, that does not mean it is good, moral...

D&D 5E (2024) No way to end Rage on your turn with 2024 rules?

I am trying to put together a build for a Rage-Mage multiclass Zealot Barbarian/Abjuration Wizard/Warlock and I just figured out you can no longer end your rage with a bonus action in the 2024 rules. This is a big problem because if you can't end the Rage with a bonus then you can't cast a...

D&D 5E (2014) Character Creation- How to Apply Auction Techniques

If I am understanding this Players will need to bid for a specific class, race and background? I don't think many players are going to go for this. I know I wouldn't. Bidding for just the ability scores is fine. I could bid every bit of my money on the 20 for example and then end with 20-7-6-5-4

    D&D 5E (2024) Simplifying Dual Wielding in 5e-2024

Without magic items it is not overpowered. With magic items, in particular random magic items, it will mean far more options for dual wielding and could be quite overpowered.

D&D 5E (2024) How do you rule using a Hand Crossbow with a nick weapon

It may be impossible, but they can still do it. They can do all kinds of impossible things, doing the impossible is actually an integral part of the game. They can even shoot a hand crossbow while levitating upside down .... as long as they have one hand free to load the ammunition. Being...

D&D 5E (2024) How do you rule using a Hand Crossbow with a nick weapon

And you can't do it with a medieval crosbow easily at all. If you try to walk around with it then it does. It is called a bolt clip and it did not exist in most medieval crossbows. In those crossbows the bolt sat on the rail. It says drawing the ammunition IS part of the attack, not it...
