    DR: x/Good vs x/Holy

Well, the class in question is from the BOED, the Celstial Mystic (or as my players call it, Mystic Santa). It gains DR 10/unholy (just like the Initiate of Pistis Sophia) Perhaps it is a mistake, as I couldn't find any other reference to DR x/Unholy or Holy anywhere else in the book. Even...

    DR: x/Good vs x/Holy

Right, but say you are a creature with a DR of x/good, and your natural attacks count as weapons with your DR equivilant: Good. So, say you hit a creature with DR 5/Holy. Does your "Good" natural attack bypass the "Holy" DR?

    DR: x/Good vs x/Holy

Alright, this is probably explained somewhere, but apparently I'm too dense. :) So, is DR x/Good the same as x/Holy? What about x/Evil and x/Unholy? I assume that Holy is also Good, but is Good the same as Holy (for the purposes of DR)? Thanks!

    CW - Arcane Strike feat

As I read the feat, I think it's a bit too powerful, especially for melee classes that get a small selection of utility spells and other non-combat spells. Basically, one feat completely alters the balance of a class by converting spells that aren't meant to be combat-oriented into combat...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

Basically, if you cast a spell while being threatened you provoke an AOO. That's the rule. If you Cast Defensively, then you prevent the AOO. That's also the rule. But the method of preventing the AOO isn't specifically defined. I see it as the attacker is trying to get the AOO through, but you...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

That would be me who was touched in the head. :D For some reason I had it in my noggin that INT applied to Concentration. That's what I get for going by memory... Perhaps that may bump the level at which Concentration becomes effectively moot, but I think my reasoning behind the use of...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

No. Casting Defensively IMC is the ability to prevent the AOO while casting your spell. I realize that may not be the standard interpretation, but at the same time I don't think it's that far off. Failure of the Defensive Casting roll means while you prevented the AOO, you couldn't maintain...

Cohorts - how do you handle them?

My current rule on cohorts is: No cohorts. IMC, I have 2 players at 20th level, and 2 at 19th level, with a 5th 19th level player possibly joining soon. The last thing they need is a horde of characters several levels lower running around causing me headaches. One player does have the...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

I suppose we're looking at two sides of the same coin. :) Whereas you view the action as totally based on a single person's (the caster) actions, I view it as a combination. Basically, I don't see the "Cast Defensively" action as the ability to cast without dropping your guard, I see it as...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

I also don't like the mechanic for Defensive Casting, or Tumble for that matter - especially since once you get to around 9th level or so it becomes relativly pointless to check for either. I fixed both by changing them to an opposed mechanic, based on the Attack modifier of the opponent...

Guardian Feature on Live Action Roleplaying

I started and ran a LARP (Vampire, of course) for a while, before the needs of work required me to turn it over to new management. It was an enjoyable experience, and I'd probably do it again if given the chance. Of course, it was back when Vampire was first out - so the "goth" crowd hadn't...

    Help with Ancestral Relic

So, here's the situation. My campaign has been running for quite a long time, and the current players are all 19th level. A new player is joining the group, and is making a 19th level character. When it comes to character wealth, I only allow a player to spend up to 10% of his total wealth...

My Game Went Epic Last Night

Cool! The game I run will be getting there in several weeks. We started back in 2e with "pre" first-level characters. Just like your game, there's only one original character left. I'll feel a sense of accomplishment once we cross that boundry. There's nothing like building from the ground up.

    Allegories of Material Spell Components

Ever heard fog refered to as "Thick as pea soup"? That a common expression around here, and probably in other places. Carrots are usually said to improve vision. I don't know if there's any actual proof of this, but it's a common belief. The penny is probably right on the mark! Probably...

Need some DMing advice - trying to avoid the railroad

Well, if it's a set of four, have them figure this out. Once they realize that what they have is special, and that they have one of four, then they will naturally seek the remaining three. As the campaign progresses, and as they gain the remaining three, you can slowly reveal what the purpose...

    I like 3E, but I miss...

Since converting over to 3e, I've lost two players who would finish that sentence like this: "When thinking back to 1st or 2nd edition AD&D, I have to admit that I miss how abusable it was." I curse Skills and Powers to the Ninth Layer of Hell! I miss the number of good, fluffy books done...

Forcing Players to create GOOD characters...

I disagree. If your LE fighter killed a starving mother and her two young children for trying to steal his food, he would be perfectly within his alignment. If your good player stood by and watched this without action, then he's not playing a good character. Perhaps for a while the evil...

Forcing Players to create GOOD characters...

I disagree. I usually implement such requirements in my game. And it's not to make things simpler on me - but to keep the game on track. See, when you just let anyone make anything with no guidelines, you'll end up with a mix of characters that make no logical sense. A chaotic evil assassin...

Help me find a Feat or two!

True, but I'm not set on any one class as of yet, so I will likely choose the best or perhaps best two (assuming they fit together). All I've really decided on is the Vow. I'd like to combine some class abilities with a feat or two, if possible - but I've yet to find a feat that is similar to...
