The Shark of Worlds, The Great Wall is broken, Xochipactli is back

Yeah, it's just the "dead rudderless universe" aspect I find a bit embarrassing, not the power level. I actually did find (in my notes from an older computer) stats for Cipactli the First One of the Material Plane (based on a ridiculously advanced Tarrasque) and partial stats for Xochipactli's...

The Shark of Worlds, The Great Wall is broken, Xochipactli is back

Basically like the 'World Turtle' image from various mythologies (or Discworld), except a crocodile instead of a turtle. With some Tarrasque mixed in. In her ridiculous multi-High-Lord form, I think like a crocodile/Tarrasque form containing whole galaxies within it? This was 15 years ago or...

The Shark of Worlds, The Great Wall is broken, Xochipactli is back

That's more or less what I had in mind, but the name is a bit of a linguistic monstrosity. I was pretty young when I made it up; it's a mishmash of Xochiquetzal (Aztec goddess) and Cipactli (Mayan mythic crocodile), so it's a mix of Nahuatl and Maya, so who knows what the 'proper' pronunciation...

TSR Elf Stranded on the Warden: A Short Gary Gygax Story

This incident is very briefly referenced in the 1E DMG, really cool to find out what actually happened!

Low Magic Setting, High Magic Characters

Well, it depends on the level of power involved, and the scale. If there are really large kingdoms and empires with large armies, sure. If it's more Dark Ages scale kingdoms, and a low-magic world, where the army is likely to lack significant magical support... would common soldiers even obey...

Low Magic Setting, High Magic Characters

I agree, this is more a campaign style/play style issue than anything. In populous worlds with relatively large nations, there will be forces that exist to deal with things like that. In more "fractured" worlds, where most polities are local and low-population, though, this can totally work...

Crowdfunded RPG pdfs/books, is there enough interest?

Yeah I'm not a big fan of how that worked out... I think mixing the Tiers "in-between" the basic levels, rather than starting after 20, was kind of a mess. But I do think the idea of shifting to a new kind of advancement, rather than adding levels to the same classes, is a solid one. 20th level...

    Sea Serpents!

I was surprised by the lack of a classic sea serpent in Ghosts of Saltmarsh... Sea Serpent Gargantuan monstrosity, unaligned Armor Class 17 (natural armor) Hit Points 217 (14d20+70) Speed 0 ft, swim 40 ft STR 23 (+6) DEX 10 (+0) CON 21 (+5) INT 2 (-4) WIS 16 (+3) CHA 6 (-2) Skills Perception...

D&D 5E (2014) What proportion of the population are adventurers?

In my world... Worldwide, as an average among all the PC-type-beings (humans, elves, dwarves, dragonborn, etc etc.) a very small percentage - probably on the order of 1 in 5,000. (There are, however, more people with PC-class-equivalent abilities, though they're still rare; there are wizards...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle the "economy killing spells" in your game?

Well, one inherent limit on raising the dead, in the given rules, is that the people have to want to return, which can be quite limiting; most good people are probably happy in their afterlife (and evil people are less likely to have others try to raise them). I imagine strongly LN and CN people...

    Invisibility magic items seem overvalued

Well, sure, but it's still only a 2nd level utility spell, and you still become visible when you attack... and then it takes another action before you're invisible again... It just doesn't really seem to compare with other legendary items on either the cool factor or the power factor. But it...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle the "economy killing spells" in your game?

I figure the purpose of castles is against goblins, bugbears, orcs, ogres/trolls/etc, and so on. These rarely have access to spells 3rd level and above (with the potential exception of hobgoblins, but those act more like nations than wandering bands of monsters like the other...

    Invisibility magic items seem overvalued

Why is a potion of invisibility "very rare" and a ring of invisibility "legendary"? Invisibility is only a 2nd level spell. Other potions that mimic low-level spells are much more common. Also, given that invisibility is such a low-level spell, people will know that it exists in the world, and...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle the "economy killing spells" in your game?

My campaign's main city is about 900,000 people, and it is relatively rich in magic, especially low-level magic - not quite as much so as Eberron, but starting to move in that direction (essentially, my world is in an earlier stage of the "magical industrial revolution" - I've actually...

Tomb of Horrors Question (Both "Yawning Portal" and Original)

So I ran the Tales from the Yawning Portal 5E version of 'Tomb of Horrors' a while back, and I noticed something... the adventure specifically provides for using astral/ethereal travel to bypass doors/traps/etc, listing random demon encounters that can occur if traveling astrally/ethereally...
