    D&D 5E (2014) A Strahd fear variant

I have to say that sounds a bit complicated. 2E Ravenloft fear checks were just saving throws - vs. paralyzation, IIRC. I think a simple save or be frightened (the condition) would be the closest 5E version.

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

Not necessarily. Just because high-level adventurers exist in sufficient numbers to balance out super-powerful monsters on a large scale, doesn't mean any particular city or barony or whatever can rely on them in its defenses. People that powerful aren't likely to be at the beck and call of...

D&D 5E (2014) Do NPCs in your game have PHB classes?

Sure. All I'm saying is that the mechanical ability to survive a really high fall and remain functional doesn't have to represent in-world superhuman physical toughness in the sense that the character's bones/muscles/skin are different from standard human, since it's (barely) possible for...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is "Frost Brand" rarer than "Flame Tongue"?

That would be nice... if the pricing WotC produced fit well with your campaign. Which in the majority of cases it probably wouldn't, because the prevalence of magic is different between Eberron vs. FR vs. Mystara vs. Greyhawk vs. Dark Sun etc. Now, a book with a bunch of different pricing...

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

In a high-magic world, I don't think you'd have city walls, just as modern cities don't. If there are enough wizards capable of casting teleportation circle to make permanent teleportation circles important to trade (which implies a very-high-magic world with lots of high-level spellcasters)...

D&D 5E (2014) WHY is there (still) no Class that allows you to use both Arcane and Divine magic...?

Actually, Raise Dead and Resurrection are on the bard spell list normally. So are Healing Word, Cure Wounds/Mass Cure Wounds, Lesser/Greater Restoration, and Regenerate. Bards are perfectly competent healers as is. You only need Magical Secrets for Revivify or something rarer/specific like...

D&D 5E (2014) Do NPCs in your game have PHB classes?

Well, there are several cases of people surviving falls of 10,000+ feet in real life, when parachutes failed or aircraft disintegrated around them; some even in good enough condition to walk away from it.

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

Well... that depends. A mundane force of footsoldiers can be opposed by another mundane force of footsoldiers, and if you're defending a city, the defender generally has a significant advantage. But some demons and undead are really hard to stop with just mundane forces. On the low-CR end...

D&D 5E (2014) WHY is there (still) no Class that allows you to use both Arcane and Divine magic...?

Yeah, with even in 3E bards had some healing, and the arcane/divine divide is even weaker now. So something like a mystic theurge doesn't really make sense in 5E... and even that required multiclassing to become.

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkvision and whiteouts

No. Darkvision lets you see in darkness or see better in dim light... not in just any situation where 'normal' beings can't see.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is "Frost Brand" rarer than "Flame Tongue"?

Yeah, there should be Eberron magic item creation and magic economy rules, for sure. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be doing setting worldbooks for this edition... OK then 'generic' or 'setting neutral' rather than 'core'. I have no problem with such... if they are setting-specific. Ones...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is "Frost Brand" rarer than "Flame Tongue"?

Further, I think the lack of 'core' magic item economy is a good decision. I wouldn't mind official pricing, but it should be campaign-setting-specific not 'core rules' or 'generic optional rules' because stuff like magic item economy is very setting dependent. I think that's especially...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is "Frost Brand" rarer than "Flame Tongue"?

I think magic item economy is not supposed to be a thing in 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) Do NPCs in your game have PHB classes?

Thank you for explaining that! I stared at that stat block for a while a few days ago, trying to figure that out... "yep, it really says 20 intelligence..." EDIT: in case I misunderstood/mis-answered the original question... I see the MM-style NPC stat blocks as simplifications. A...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Fireball melt ice FOR REALZ?

A good point, but a piece of ice (or anything else) dropped into the sun wouldn't survive to reach the deeper layers ;) That's true... OTOH presumably those people weren't completely engulfed in fire. A fireball is definitely hotter than a campfire, especially since it's brief. But it...

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

I'd assume so. Yeah... that's why when people turn Sith you go hunt them down immediately In someplace like the Forgotten Realms, that might be a big issue. In other worlds, there aren't really "random strangers" casting spells of that level. In my world, the number of people capable of...

D&D 5E (2014) Do NPCs in your game have PHB classes?

I'd say "rare". I actually made a big demographics table for my campaign world so I could know things like "how many people able to cast X spell should there be in this city?" and "at what level are the PCs likely to be the most powerful people in the town/barony/city/kingdom/continent?"...

D&D 5E (2014) What single new class would you like to see?

Yeah, the 'unfilled' ones I can think of either don't fit the standard D&D setting very well (gadgeteer is more of a higher tech level thing) or don't have strong archetypes (like the divine-rogue thing). And even those don't necessarily need to be full classes as opposed to new subclasses of...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Fireball melt ice FOR REALZ?

Well, technically, the sun is only one order of magnitude, or less, hotter than a campfire. The sun's surface is about 5800 Kelvin, and 580 Kelvin is only about 585 F. I don't know exactly how hot a campfire is, but definitely hotter than that, because I've seen reenactors melt lead over one to...

D&D 5E (2014) What single new class would you like to see?

That's one of the reasons I really dislike the Pathfinder 'gunslinger' class. 'Master of all armor and weapons' is traditionally the fighter niche, from using all types of weapons and magical weapons in OD&D, to weapon specialization in AD&D, to fighter-exclusive feats including weapon...
