    DDI Progress

WOTC is not a software company. It would be no great surprise if they're unaware of how to do a feasibility study, requirements gathering, system analysis, design, and/or management. In fact, they've basically demonstrated that over and over. There may not be anyone in management who knows that...

Epic Fight turns into Epic Farce

Well, now you know why he's laughing. :D For me, this is why I play the game instead of just writing stories. That encounter is surprising and novel and not something I've seen in a fantasy story. I personally like it more than the "same old thing".

Looking for Earliest Surviving RPG Recordings...

Somewhere I've got a partial game of Paranoia circa 1986 or so. The schtick was that I gave props to all the players to represent the gear they had (the better to adjudicate thievery, breakage, penalties for stuff not returned to R&D). For the tri-corder I handed them a functioning video...

The Rouse and Linae Talk GSL

Cool. Linae, do you plan to answer any questions on the GSL here in say, the next month or so?

The Rouse and Linae Talk GSL

It looks like they have time to check the site, but don't want to answer questions about 4E or the GSL.

At long last, Belkar is my favorite character. I just CANNOT stop laughing at his panels here. :)

The Rouse and Linae Talk GSL

Excellent. Linae, in your view is WOTC satisfied or dissatisfied with the number of companies that have publicly accepted the GSL? Has the number met your prior expectations, or fallen below them?

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Back in post #167, you asked for any evidence to a specific claim. Then you asked for a specific link. I've provided both of those and I'm not going to argue further. In short, my independent conclusion, having again read the posts at the the time, is the same as what dmmccoy originally stated...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Here's a few links. It's interesting that the official WOTC press release from 1/8/08 says the opposite of what RedShirt quoted from a conference call the same day. In this release, you pay $5000 for access to the "Kit" and the "Kit" includes the license (called OGL at the time)...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Korgoth, that was entirely a great post and really insightful. In particular, I'd never previously considered the above observation, but I totally agree with it now that you've pointed it out. It very much encapsulates my own struggles choosing between 1E and d20 gaming sources.

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

The month before the GSL was released, WOTC presented a FAQ that actually asserted that was going to be the case ("you cannot publish anything again that uses the OGL"). You had a situation where at least one WOTC spokesperson responded to a direct question about it and said "yes" (along with...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Why is that? If the disagreeable terms were part of some private negotiation, that would be one thing. But with a public license that the entire industry is trying to make up their mind about, it seems like it would be distracting and unnecessary for GR to go cloak-and-dagger about their...

    A 4E magic item conundrum

This is similar to the accident in 1E AD&D when Unearthed Arcana assigned really steep price values to any wizard's spellbook. The easiest way to see a massive inflow of cash for 1st-level parties was (1) roll up wizard, (2) get him killed, (3) sell spellbooks, (4) repeat. Of course, step #2...

    Changeover poll

Mark, thanks for saying that. I'm walking around all day thinking of how best to explain this stuff anyway (and noodling in graduate statistics texts), so I see a thread like this and it all comes spilling out. :)

    Changeover poll

You misunderstand inferential statistics. This is common. (I'm a part-time statistics professor). The incredible beauty of the math behind the field of statistics is that -- amazingly -- it doesn't matter how big your population is. The percentage in the sample generally follows the percentage...

3.5e -- What REALLY needed fixing?

In general, I thought that 3.5 was a big slip-up compared to what came before; I never used anything past 3E. If I was fixing 3.5 I'd first go back to 3.0 and then make some minor modifications. Now, I'll basically jump in and flag the ones in the current OP list I agree with. The others...
