D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items in the campaign

I just mentioned in another thread that I used the rules for selling magic items to create rules for finding and buying them. It's very easy! Just replace "buyer" with "seller" each time it's mentioned, take the final table you roll on to see how good a deal you're getting, and reverse the order...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

I did this! It's very easy! Just replace "buyer" with "seller" each time it's mentioned, take the final table you roll on to see how good a deal you're getting, and reverse the order the results are listed in! Then adjust which sellers would now be considered "shady" (the guy selling you a magic...

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

Overall, yes, there are virtually limitless options. But all we're talking about is the options for spending sorcery points. There is a quite-finite number of things they can do, and you're going to want to use some of them. But unless you're the DM or a real-life Telepath or Seer, you have no...

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

OK, I see what you're saying now. Yes, an extra option doesn't add to a character's power if they still have to choose one or the other to use. But wouldn't you agree that if someone is better-prepared, they benefit from the versatality in a way that someone with one less option does not match...

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

So the advantage to not having the option is removing the temptation of spending a point to activate it, because it might turn out to have been a poor decision later? That's sort of a weak justification. I mean, I guess technically that's a sort of benefit, but it's not like every time I use the...

D&D Basic Rules Website - A Handy Browseable Resource!

There's something very wrong with the fact that I had to use the link here to reach it because I couldn't find it on its own website.

How's D&D Working Out For You? First official feedback survey looks at CLASSES and FEATS!

I didn't think the "which class is stronger?" questions were pointless, but they really should've had a neutral "they seem pretty balanced to me" answer.

Well, definitely ordinary monkeying for everyone!

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

I dunno if that's enough to justify spending a whole sorcery point on. I'd already take half-damage from something; this doesn't seem like it would make my resistance that much stronger. What if instead of spending a sorcery point to get resistance to the bloodline's signature damage for an...

That might've settled things a while ago if you had just said it directly! :)

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

What if the damage bonus from Elemental Affinity also applied to a dragonborn's breath weapon? Then having a single bloodline would allow you to sacrifice a temporary defensive boost for a moderately-infrequently-used offensive boost.

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

Well, you pointed out that they would save points by having a single bloodline, which I thought made sense at first until it was brought up that having a mixed bloodline does the same thing, but also gives you the ability to spend points on a second damage resistance. Then on the second page you...

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

Well I think it goes without saying that there's nothing wrong with having a disadvantage you don't mind. But the goal here is to help players who do mind the disadvantage having a single draconic bloodline creates. If that fact doesn't bother you, then it's not really useful to keep bringing up.

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

There exist situations in which a single bloodline dragonborn sorcerer is no worse off than a mixed one. There exist situations in which a single bloodline dragonborn sorcerer is worse off than a mixed one. There exist no situations in which a single bloodline dragonborn sorcerer is better off...

    5th Edition Book of Houserules

OK, my laptop spontaneously started working again, and I can now help edit the document! Should I still post any new ideas for the doc here first, and only put them on it if they're approved by the rest of you, or is it OK to just add them directly? For now, two three new rules: Spare the...

    The Strange Recursion Design Competition

I never heard of this game before, but now I kinda want to try it. So maybe this is going to help it after all (I'm the sort of person who tends to assume that if he decided to do something, a bunch of other people probably had the same thought, too)!

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Whips?

But as long as it's theoretically possible, the fact that it takes place in an adventure game is enough to handle the rest as far as I care! On another note, the concept of giving some weapons a "tool" property that lets you add your proficiency bonus to ability checks made using it in a...

D&D 5E (2014) The curious case of the double-dragon sorcerer

I think the point here is that replacing the resistance from the class feature with resistance from the race feature and thus saving points is no different from having the race feature and the class feature have two different resistances and then refraining from spending points on the class...
