    Jonathan Tweet denounces Power Attack

Amen! I'm in the camp that says power attack is fine. People in my group who use it go with their gut or power attack for all of it on every attack and have not power attacking the exception to the rule. That said it isn't excellent, because unfortunatley many people don't use it because they...

    Adventurer class

I've seen this done before. Makes for a very versatile character. To the OP, I think as others have said it'll be better to just use one class with appropriate feat/talent selection or multiclass than to create an 'adventurer' class. Keep in my though I'm generally in favor of fewer, more...

The Santa thread, part one : parental answers

Pretty much sums up how it was in my family growing up.

    . . . while you're at it. . . Fix heavy armor!

Medium armor is what gets neglected. Full plate is worn by most low dexterity characters in my experience (13 or less, sometimes 15 or less), and by higher dex characters if they can afford mithril plate. Really the only armors I see once PCs can afford them are Leather (this can obviously be...

    Sword to Polarm

A naginata is not simply a sword tied onto a 10 foot stick. Forging an actualy polearm with a sword like blade is another story. I believe naginatas in Oriental Adventures have the same stats as a glaive. Just tying a sword and stick together in some way is an improvised weapon (as others...

E6 Campaign - What to do with all that gold?

I think everyone is missing the two most obvious things: beer and whores.

There's Powerful Deviltry at Work Here...

Perhaps they want to generate press or incite a reaction against themselves, it could attract more people to the game.

    How powerful is regeneration?

Could always give regeneration 0, all damage except fire and acid is converted to nonlethal. Might even be a strong +0 LA, makes you nearly unkillable. But I'd probably do something like: +2 str, +2 con, -2 int, -2 cha, Regneration 0 (fire acid), claw attack 1d4, LA +1

    Who mugged the Sword Sage?

Martial artist is a bit ill-defined too. Most fighters in d&d fit the definition of a martial artist, so would a lot of characters oriented around physical combat (as opposed to magical). Of course the same can be said of naming a class 'fighter'. I think this might be one of those cases...

Surprise Round: grapple succesfully Round 1: Win initiative and pin Unfortunatley this is going to take some luck winning initiative so you can take them down before they can speak.

Running the Tomb of Horrors in 3.5

Fortunatley my group didn't have a rogue with many ranks in search when I ran it for 3.5, so they had to rely on their wits.

historical references for "points of light"?

First Example that springs to mind: Early human civilization. When people were first beginning to settle into cities, I'm thinking of those early fortified towns in mesopotamia. In such a setting towns would have to be reasonably well sized (+1000 people?) for self defense and to be more or...

Another Big Playtest Post from Michele Carter

I agree with that. Something as simple as threshold of numbers/percentage HP at which the opponents retreat (tactically) and a second threshold at which they flee in panic.

    Kryptonian!

LA +9 seems too high. Compare the goodies a half fiend or dragon gets to this guy. I'd put LA at +5 or 6. Also instead of a scorching ray why not an effect that scales with level? That way it won't be too good early on nor will it be weak at higher levels.

    One new setting a year?

I for one would like to see more settings. And in my case at least I don't plan to buy more than the core setting book anyway (unless its something extremely well done), so I wouldn't be concerned about a continual stream of more supplemental books for a given setting.

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

I think your suggestions to the teleport spell are the best idea, increased casting time, and possibly some sort of indication in the area you are about to teleport to that someone is teleporting in (perhaps the air becomes filled with static for 1 minute before you are about to arrive, there is...

why not getting rid of coup de grace?

I think coup de gras is fine, for the reasons already mentioned plus 1 more: PCs usually don't die from it (I'd say as few as 5-10 percent in games I've been in), most PCs die from being at 30 HP and suddenly getting wacked by a solid blow down to -10. Most BBEG don't die from it either (I can...

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

From what we've been told the power curve won't be as steep in 4e, so these things shouldn't occur till later. 4e=kewl powers not more power (or so it would seem).

    New Design and Development: Pantheon

Some of the ancient greeks, assuming I understand Herodotus correctly, were of the opinion that all people worshipped variations of the same deities, so the Greek's might call the chief god Zeus and the Egyptian's Ra. So in world where there is a 'common' tongue it should hardly come as a...
