Full circle: D&D now being based on video games...

I think your case for all of these is weak. First, given what they've said, characters will have less magic items in 4e, not more as in 3e and many video games. Second, not sure what you mean by this, unless you mean the DI junk, in which case I'd say all previous editions of D&D could've...

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

Fighters do exceed the human maximum. With a single swing a of sword a fighter can kill 8 men in six seconds, this is accomplishable at low levels. By level 20 he can take or 100s or 1000s of a opponents, with out even using magic items. I think people are more against flashy abilities being...

"Per Encounter"-Ability: Hopefully not in the rules

Per encounter could be changed to 1/minute or 1/5 minutes and it'd work out to the same thing 90 percent of the time. In fact by 'per encounter' I wouldn't be surprised if they meant 1/X minutes.

Another name for the Warlord: Ayran

Not only is its pronunciation the name of a country (causing confusion) but it also bares similarity to the word Aryan (which consequently is where said country's name comes from). The word aryan is associated with racism (see 3rd Reich) and so it would be inadvisable to have such a similar word...

Players, DMs and Save or Die

Is it always possible though to have death ward cast on the entire party though? And if it is then is there any point in having spells in the game that will always be negated?

    Building a Norse Type Priest...

Dargon brings up good points. Most accurate/typical norse style priest would probably be best represented in D&D by a female cleric who focuses on divination and healing magic. I also don't recall Odin as being mocked for using magic but he did use it. Another idea for a nordic character who...

    Warden

It might suck, but at least we'd avoid a lot of confusion

POLL: Would you play D&D without a Skill System?

I'd want a skill point/rank system or skill proficiency system (like star wars saga edition or 2e). Depending on how involved I wanted it to be.

    enworld project: Spell Compendium Errata.

Ya, fire resist was only per round in 3e. Simplified in 3.5 (and generally reduced its value too). Oh and as far as the original topic goes: Claws of Darkness is level 2 in its description but level 3 on the spell list. Both can't be right. I'd say it should be level 2 but thats just my gut.

    D&D 4E The Great d20 Books that shaped 4E

I suspect the 3e Epic Level Handbook's only effect on 4e's 21-30 levels will be on how not to do them.

    Warlord or Soldier?

To me, the elite soldiers who served under Achilles in the battle of Troy.

    Warlord or Soldier?

Warlord is okay in my opinion, not good, not bad. Soldier I don't really like. Just like warlord it brings its own set of implications but doesn't sound as cool nor convey the inspirational aspects warlord does. Honestly I can't think of a really good name for the class. I'd just use...

The best way to do Death Effects?

Save or drop to -1 (or -9 or -1d10) is a method I've seen and used before. Unfortunatley it still completely bipasses HP (more similar to harm) and a quickened magic missle or an ally can still instantly finish off the foe. But it is somewhat of a compromise between pro instant death and anti...

    Do You Use Metamagic Feats?

When I play a full caster I generally do. I've seen them become more popular in my group in the last year, but that is largely due to sudden metamagic feats. Quicken, empower and still spell are my favorites (still spell for casting in a grapple).

Get rid of the half-races, except halflings ;o)

I'm in complete agreement. This is one thing I really dislike about half elves, and they're amping this aspect up quite a bit in 4e by the sound of it.

Will you buy the preview books?

I'm surprised by number of yes and maybe answers, guess I'm just stingy.

"...the ancient empire of the tieflings..." and Sword & Sorcery gaming

I don't think we know enough about the class features of martial classes in 4e to decide if they are one way or the other as far as flavor or mechanics.

Darn you chaotic aligned scum. To OP: very cool ideas.

D&D 4E What 4E class do you most want to try out?

Leaning toward wizard. Warlord a close second. Or possibly a light fighter (ranger or fighter or rogue or some combination there of).

    Zombies! New Dungeoncraft article up

They sound pretty cool, except for 'em not being a template, probably wouldn't be turn hard to come up with one, but I shouldn't have to.
