races & hp; what do people think of a more...well, real/logical approach to HP?

I do not like this idea. I think this is what the constitution score is for. In my experience it isn't best to overthink hit points. By that logic it shouldn't loose BAB or good fortitude and reflex saves either.

D&D 4E Is liking 4E biased by how many books you own?

I think the OP might have a point. I myself only own maybe a dozen 3.X books out side of the core. Of the other 4 regulars in my group they might have another 2 dozen books out side of the core. And we're all looking forward/apathetic toward the arrival of 4e. Where as I see many people...

    Munchkins vs. Powergamers?

I would generally agree with the OPs assessment though most people use the terms interchangably. Quartz sums it up pretty well too. And even under the OPs definitions powergamers could be bad for some groups, but those cases, I would think, are few and far between.

Sahuagin -- new discoveries in undersea campaigning

Sahuagin abilities are +4 stength, +2 dex, +2 con, +4 int, +2 wis, -2 cha. Purely ability score wise the sahuagin are superior. And are probably at least equally as numerous as the aquatic elves (if aquatic elves are like other elves in their numbers). So it would seem that other tactics...

    "Core" and Business Models

If the 4e MM doesn't have beholders I'll be very disappointed. But in all honesty about 2/3rds of the monsters in the 3e MM I could do without.

Will You Count "Roman Numeral" Books As Core?

No. The core by defnition, is what is core to the game, the rules that everything else will run off. And I'd hope what is core to most games is included in the PHB, DMG, MM. PHBII, DMG II, MMII and the books that follow those I'll view in the same light as Unearthed Arcana, Complete Arcane...

A Simple House Rule for that Old School Feel

I think your assessment is a little off. A 20th level character with +5 cloak of resistance will only have +11 plus ability modifier with his poor saves (probably total of +12-14 if its reflex or will or a total of +14 to +16 if fort). A 20th level wizard casting a ninth level spell can will...

    Stealth Attack

One thing to keep in mind is that it isn't always possible to sneak attack every round or hit every round. That said I think making it trade 1d6 sneak attack damage for 1 round of silence is fine (and only 1 round, no multiple d6 for more rounds). Casters could still activate wands, staves and...

    Martial equivalent of Wish..

20th level fighter in 3e can litterally kill thousands of low level warriors with out dying. Seems about on par with a wish. Wish is more versatile but spell casters always are.

    Untrained/trained Skills....Noooo!

Just use the 3e rule that if you aren't trained in a knowledge skill you can only make common knowledge checks (DC 10). So a 20th level Saga skill user with +10 to Knowledge (X) will know any common knowledge about the topic. But only a trained character will know greater details and only a...

Return of the Cursed Magic Item?

I always saw a lot of cursed items (like -1 swords) being the result of the guy creating them screwing up, wild magic, the magic degrading over time etc.

    D&D 4E the Price of 4E

While I think they should be cheap, preferably 25 dollars, which would be comparable to what the 3e books cost initially in 2000, a high buy in at $100 (DMG and MM)+$50 per person (1 PHB each) wouldn't dissuade my group from 4e, at least from what we've talked about in the past.

    Untrained/trained Skills....Noooo!

Big difference between a +10 base (focused), trained (+5) to nothing (+0) plus +1/2 level in Saga. Even though the bonus scales the specialized character will still be 10 higher than the untrained guy. The untrained guy is not a jack of all trades because he doesn't have acess to the trained...

Wands and Mage Hand - Your opinion...

While I don't think this would work it does give me the idea of giving a cleric a ludicrously long 10-15ft wand to heal allies from a distance. Hmm. Perhaps a chain and wand device would work too?

    D&D 4E Most Wanted 4E Rules Revelations

I want to know it all obviously. But what I want most is Wizard, Warlord and multiclassing info. I want to see how spell casting will now work, how the 'leader role' will work and whats done with multiclassing to make it better now.

Doing away with stat boosting items

I haven't done any number crunching but my gut says yes, they will be fine. If a character pumps all 6 ability score points into one stat he'll get +6 by level 12. Thats the say as +2 from leveling up and +4 from an item. Their secondary abilities won't get as much of a boost but if I...

    Enhancement penalty vs. stat damage

    1) Pretty sure penalties aren't of different types. So no enhancement penalty, just penalty. 2) Yes HP, fort saves, and con checks would all be effected. 3) Most ability penalties are inflicted by spells similar to ray of enfeeblement, which has a duration, when its duration expires or it is...

    Campaign Duration

Lately up to 6 months, in times past over a year, but we'd also be running a lot more than 1 game at a time. In high school we had more free time.

    D&D 4E Who's going to dump WoW for 4E?

I guess completely different is too strong a term. I meant more like: "how will I spend fight night, study for class, play video games, go to the movies, work out at the gym or clean up around the house?" Usually a person will be able to pick as many as 2 or 3 of those acitivities for Friday...
