D&D 4E Should hit points continue to be generated randomly in 4e?

1 HP wouldn't be a big deal, but it is not unlikely for a character (paticuarly one with a larger hit dice) to get unlucky multiple multiple poor rolls over the course of a few levels. This can add up to dozens of hit points less than average by level 20 in some cases. In any case it won't be...

    Injuries buy off damage system

My group is easily distracted too, and I know a bidding system would result in a 5 minute back and forth everytime someone decided to 'buy off' and injury. Limiting the amount a person can soak with an injury seems like a good way to limit its use too, that way a truly massive blow will always...

D&D 4E Mental Math: an important 4e issue

I have seen such players before. The biggest offender of this in my experience is when a player who wasn't good at math was playing an epic level character dual wielding large scimitars making 8 attacks per round with a crit range of 12-20 and each scimitar having different energy types meant...

    Injuries buy off damage system

I was thinking, and another problem with this system is that there is no limiter on how often your character can take injuries in the place of damage. So its conceivable that you might have by the end of a fight two guys at 1 HP who can only move 5ft per turn, useless off hands, fatigued, 10...

    Which cows are most Sacred

The presence of dungeons. The occaisonal dungeon crawl should be fundamental to any d&d game. I don't use dungeon crawls in every adventure my self when I DM, but once every few levels I have a good old fashion dungeon crawl. A lot of other things in the poll are mechanical things, things...

    D&D 3.x Will 3E exotic weapons appear in 4E?

Good points, lets hope they can come up with some consistency in their weapon proficiency system. Even now looking again at the core rules, many weapons (monk weapons) are exotic and they're clearly weaker than martial or simple weapons.

D&D 3.x What will we miss from 3.5E?

Vancian spellcasting. Its grown on me over the years, even though I never read the books from which it was taken. It seems like D&Dism to me, sorta like HP, AC and the six ability scores. That said I like other spell casting systems too.

D&D 4E Should Ability Scores in 4E Be Randomly Determined?

I voted 'no' but what I really mean is that the default should be point buy, but the option to roll ability scores should still be there in the PHB and if not there then definitley in the DMG.

    D&D 3.x Will 3E exotic weapons appear in 4E?

Exotic weapons in DnD aren't exotic because they are from a different culture or some far away land but because they gain an additional mechanical benefit(s) over martial weapons and are thus more difficult to use requiring a feat. They should really rename them, as the term 'exotic weapon' is a...

    Injuries buy off damage system

Pretty cool idea, might have to borrow it. If I understand you right, taking an injury reduces damage equal to it's injury rank times character level (this is a little unclear)? Stun should proably be worth 2 or 3, as being stunned for 1 round is pretty bad. When ability drain occurs is it...

    Looking for Archers

Arcane archer requires arecane spell casting, ranger cast divine spells. So you'll take a BAB cut either way. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.

    Feat to hasten summoning spells?

Rapid summoning in UA, you give up your familiar and cast all summon monster spells as a standard action. Rapid summoning could be made into a feat pretty easily too.

Replacing d20 skill method with Saga's?

At low levels DCs will be easier to meet, and at high levels as you point out they will be harder. For instance a level 1 character in saga who is trained in a skill has a +5 bonus before other modifiers. In D&D the character would have maxed out his skill as +4. At level four they are even (at...

    D&D 4E death and 4E

How can a character gain true glory without heroically dying in battle in an attempt to steal an extremely large tresure horde? How can a DM live with himself if PCs don't die after a string of incredibly stupid decisions?

    DMing

In my experience characters rarely use the followers for actualy combat, thats what the cohort is for. 4,000 first level fighters are nothing compared to even a cohort who's level is in the upper teens. That said unless you expect his 400 followers to be useful outside of combat I'd advise he...

Do you want some better AC with that experience?

I've used a very similar house rule, but only in low magic item games. If you use the standard amount of magic items in addition to giving a class based AC bonus (that stacks with everything) then ACs will start to get too high. So as long as you keep being stingy with those AC boosting magic...

    Saga skills?

When you multiclass to a second class you choose to learn 1 of their starting feats, starting feats are usually proficiency feats. So if you started fighter and went rogue you'd have more weapon and armor proficiency feats but fewer skills trained. Vice versa if you started fighter and went...
