    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

I would be very surprised to find a player who couldn't find some way to spending his hard-earned gold in the game. ;) After all, PCs had been doing it right up until 3e...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

My problem with the magic item economy is that if magic items can be bought with gold, then that is all gold is ever worth to the party. If you take magic items out of the gold economy you free up it's use for a whole world of other purposes in the campaign - manors, castles, exotic mounts...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

Whew... this allievated one of my biggest 4e concerns - being able to eliminate the buying and selling of magic items in the game gracefully. Disenchant/Re-enchant - works for me. :)

Dragonborn & Tieflings: What is their place in your world?

In my 4e Greyhawk campaign I'm moving the setting forward a century to allow some time for the new races to settle in (in time building a few villages, towns and cities of their own). In the early CY: 600s, the Elemental Princes of Evil laid seige to Oerth and the Dragonborn are they're driven...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Fair enough, but I think they're appropriately slotted as uncomplicated, commonly encountered brute foes. I can foresee a 4e Against the Giants style adventure somewhere down the line and I can see why they might not want the rank-and-file giants to be too tough. And who knows, there may be more...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

And I look at as pieces of a puzzle, each monster fulfilling a specific role in a larger encounter, rather than judging them as an island of their own (barring the solos of course). After the initial volleys, the Giants will move in to sweep the PCs together so that the Rakshasa and the Drake...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Who says you have to have a 5 giant encounter if you find it boring? Why not 2 giants, a rakshasa leader, a frost worg and an acid spitting drake? I'm just pulling these monsters out of a hat, but the point is that with a standard 5 monster enounter (and monsters having a broader range of...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

I think a lot of people are still having trouble getting their heads around the fact that encounters are now designed around larger groups of opponents rather just a single opponent. That when you add up all the abilities of the following... Level 17 Encounter (XP 7,800) 1 earth titan (level...

    TWF and you

Indeed, it was even said by TPTB that Rangers got TWF from Driz'zt, and I remember it because it drove me up the wall. So while I've never liked it and never thought it made sense, at the end of the day I'll be happy so long as Fighters and Rogues have the option as well... :)

    Orcs preview

Regarding the Bloodrager Death Blow, the power says it only allows a basic melee attack. Is the "Blood for Blood" power considered rolled into a basic attack?

    May previews

Just finished reading the orc variants... they certainly love their axes. ;) The Bloodrager has a couple of nasty powers which can really stick it to the unprepared: Wounded Retaliation (immediate reaction, when hit by an adjacent enemy; at-will) The orc bloodrager makes a melee basic attack...

    New Monster Swordwing!

I quite like the design of the swordwing, has it appeared anywhere before? Looking at their statblock, heh, they don't get much easier to run. :D I did find it odd though that the crownwing, though a full size larger than the swordwing, is barely any tougher than his "lesser" brethren. It's AC...
