It feels to me like Hasbro has lit a fire under Wizards of the Coast, and given them

Regarding Hasbro and WotC's relationship, Wizards is mentioned 9 times in the annual report, but only one seems to indicating anything other than typical financial transactions: "The increase in gross profit in dollars [from the prior year] was more than offset by increased product development...

It feels to me like Hasbro has lit a fire under Wizards of the Coast, and given them

I wonder how much of the negative FLGS experience comes about because of the separation of ownership and management. Smeelbo obviously puts a lot of work into his store. Whenever I have dealt with the owner of a store, things have been pretty great. Whenever I deal with the employees, the...

    Best RPGA Adventures (Part II)

The results are worth it... but dang, its a lot of work. What makes it worse is that most LFR adventures can be run cold without being terrible. No way with MINI 1-5. (And Thanlis really pulled it off.) The closest thing I ever ran that was this complicated was the eruption adventure in the...

    Best RPGA Adventures (Part II)

Did you see this other thread? It has the older adventures in it. http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/255313-best-rpga-adventures.html

    Best RPGA Adventures (Part II)

MINI 1-5 was awesome. One of the best ones I have played. The only problem was that it was a ton of prep for the DM.

4e increased my DM prep time...

I am definitely putting more time into preparation. It is true that I am spending more time doing creative things, but I have found out that I have to work harder to be creative.

    Quick dice probability question

I would call a relative 6% difference similar to an additional +1 to hit. Isn't that worth a whole feat in 4e? Though I will grant the point that 20+ "rolls" are not in the mix. The AnyDice website demonstrates quite nicely how different the distribution of results changes with the 2d20 take...

    Class Idol: Final rankings

I wonder how the classes literary counterparts stack up in popularity? For example, Drizzt was a ranger, but ranger didn't fare well.

    Manipulative personality help

Try reading "The Sociopath Next Door." It has a lot of vignettes that show how petty (or terrible) someone with an anti-social disorder can be. However, watch out for the inter-party strife!

    Class Idol: Final rankings

The things that most surprise me from the final results were: 1) The warlord did so well in this poll and so terribly in the Survivor poll. I guess it is a "poll"arizing class? (hur hur) 2) The wizard didn't make it into the top 4. I guess it is true that people have fallen out of love with...

    Quick dice probability question

51% of rolls will be greater than or equal to 15. That's a pretty big difference from a flat +3.

Class Idol FINAL Round: The Ultimate Battle

Warlord used Commander's Strike to allow everyone to vote for the fighter?

Haha. Consider that idea stolen for my own purposes.

4e Against the Giants vs Revenge of the Giants?

Eh, I wasn't very clear on one point. The 25th anniversary edition details all of Geoff, so you have a full country detailed. It also provides 2E versions of the original 3 giant adventures, which you might find easier to convert to 4e (or not). However, the two are not strongly tied together...

4e Against the Giants vs Revenge of the Giants?

You may want to acquire a copy of the 25th anniversary 2E addition of Against the Giants. It has an epic plot line (free the country of Geoff from giants) but incorporates the original giant locations from the 1E version. You can really mine it for detailed locations and most areas have hooks in...

What is, by consensus opinion, obviously broken?

I'm surprised by the amount of consensus in this thread. It is 100%, but it is higher than I would have expected. The only thing I would specifically mention is "the grind." This is a very deep problem that could be an barrier for new players.

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

LOL Good point. I have never heard of them. I am for people protecting their property. However, economic forces being what they are, generic product names will always have this problem. Sorry Band-Aid...

new DM, trying to figure out maps, dungeon tiles, graph paper

Tiles for specific encounters, but never a whole dungeon. Graph paper for the rest. I used a large wet erase battle mat for a long time. It was nice because I could draw out the full map on the mat, and then just show them what they needed as went along. This kept the PCs out of the mapping...
