Need an idea for an encounter at sea for a Level 10 party

A storm can add some flavor and some neat mechanical effects. I would have a script for the rounds where in the 4th round, the ship loses a spar, and in the 7th round a rogue wave hits, etc. If you want non-aquatic monsters, it would be interesting if the ship had stowaway pirates that...

Morrus - How's EN World's attendance in light of 4e?

Of course, the google trends for enworld are showing a decrease in unique visitors: Google Trends for Websites: enworld.org Oddly, the number of unique visitors started to decrease at about the same time as the release of a certain publication... But so has WotC's. Very interesting.

    4e & Internet Sales

I purchase from the FLCS (comics). Basically, I just preorder and get a great discount (comparable if not more that Amazon) and I like the guy. OTOH, the amount spent in comics probably more than makes up for his book discount :)

    Insider

So viral marketing? I suppose it makes sense. I remember when they previewed the 3e rogue in Dragon and we all went crazy over it (even though only one of us bought the magazine).

    Insider

I haven't subscribed, but I find the article teasers inticing. Enough to get me to subscribe? Not yet, but the Druid might push me over. On the one hand, I think it is useful to give people who want extra access a way to get it. On the other hand, if most of the teasers/previews for a product...

    Observations on Adventure Paths

I ran my players through Shackled City and here are some specific observations: 1) The first 4-5 adventures were virtually standalone. That is not like a railroad, even though they were all in the same path. I liked it (a lot), and my players seemed OK with it. But others on the Paizo boards...

What did you never like in 3e?

4 clerics can also break the game. But we had fun doing it!!* *In fact, from a purely combat PoV, this was the most fun I had as a player in 3E. Unlike 4 mages, 4 clerics are also viable from levels 1-8.

Are 4e feats far less exciting than 3.x?

I like the purpose of 4e feats... but it is frustrating to keep track of small bonuses all the time in combat. To put it another way, if I am considering 3 feats for my character, I'll probably choose the one that is easiest to remember to apply.

What did you never like in 3e?

On topic: Tumble rules! Neat idea, bizarre execution. (I was playing a halfling when we switched from 3E to 3.5E. Suddenly, it was so much less useful :( ) Off topic: There should probably be a companion thread about "Say What?s" that 3e fixed. Whoever put forth the idea to get rid of THAC0...

Manual of the Planes Excerpt: Shadowfell

This has me pretty excited. I like how the Shadowfell is shaping up, conceptually. The Domains of Dread are great for multiple reasons. Most important of these is the fact you can do adventure, story arc or campaigns built around them. Very cool.

White Plume Mountain - your experiences?

I ran the Return in 2e and we really enjoyed. Our favorite part was the body jumping by the Keraptis life force. They killed one body, and it started jumping into the gnomes... which the PCs promptly killed. It kept jumping and jumping. It was a real hoot. Was the only permanent death I ever...

On Whether to Get the GF Involved or Not

No doubt. Heck, even the girl in my group enjoys D&D as a "guy's night out!" :p

On Whether to Get the GF Involved or Not

My wife has no interest and I don't even bring it up. She would rather be watching football? However, I did play with a couple that had a somewhat unhealthy dynamic at the table. I'll avoid the details, but sometimes it seemed like there was just one player who had two characters.:erm...

    Inspire me! - Creating Pantheons

That is interesting. Kinda of like Eddings' Belgariad, where each nation had similar ancestors that had a specific god as a patron. You aren't limited to that god, but most of the countries' inhabitants had similar behaviors and outlooks. That also motivates interesting paragon paths (like an...

    Inspire me! - Creating Pantheons

Two suggestions. A law and chaos theme would be interesting (if not original). In this way, each pantheon has a good and an evil side, has a conflict with the other pantheon, but can be viewed as fundamentally isolated. The other suggestion would be a gnostic/orthodox tension. In this case...

Experience Points and Leveling in an Adventure Path

My players were also fine with defined leveling points. My only issue was that there was one case near the end in the Shackled City AP that the points just came too close together to match my player's prior experience. One potential complaint would be appropriate levels of treasure for their...

    4E DMG...good...bad...ugly

The new DMG gets me excited enough that I wish I hadn't let someone else in my group DM the first 4e campaign for us.

    Gaming Pride / Gaming Shame

Completely hidden. I work in a professional organization that requires a lot of customer interaction and others' views of me are important to my daily job. It doesn't seem the stereotypes apply to me, so I avoid misconception this way. On the other hand, it's not like people suddenly ask "Do...

Question for Players: Commercial or Homebrew?

I liked the publish settings, as it lets us game more often. Since time is the biggest constraint for my group, the more pre-fab stuff, the more we play.

    Mearls: Druid a Striker/Controller (maybe?)

Surely CHA will be the tertiary stat. Barbarian could be a highly mobile defender (like the swordmage). I think druids will be strikers. Spells that immobilize or pester a single foe (entangle and summon swarm) and shapeshifting abilities that allow for mobility and high damage output...
