    How keen is too keen?

Oooohhhh, No experience and didn't know about Encounters or LFR? Definitely did the right thing.

    Reach out and touch...

I made a fighter with reach one time based on an at-will that let you pull monsters around. Errata changed the power to having to be adjacent. Doh!

New Legends and Lore:Difficulty Class Warfare

I agree that arguments will still happen. But these levels are all absolutes and I think that might prevent some arguments. If the DM says something is Journeyman than it is Journeyman. A player would have to argue that it was Novice instead and J and N are very far apart. This system does...

    Group skill checks

Revenge of the Giants uses a mechanic where the whole party rolls and if the majority succeeds the group gets one success. I'm not sure what you would do about a 50/50 split, though.

    We're the Replacement Chosen Ones

There are no problems, only opportunities. <I hate platitudes, but...> I think it is an opportunity to inject some roleplaying. "There are two chosen ones?" "My god told me I was the chosen one so how can your god be right?" "The spirits of the martyr may blessed you five, but I had a...

    Eye on Dark Sun: Ravenous

Yes, the Champion's mark provides the vulnerability and that is pretty touch since they will almost always have a mark. I don't get the prone/immobilize, either. Maybe that was supposed to be weakened?

    Ways to play D&D online?

It depends on how full featured you want it to be. If you really just want a shared battle map, MapTools totally will do that. It has an initiative tracker and you can import/create conditions for each token. My PCs use the macros for their powers. That is about as much as we feel we need...

Over 36 thousand Gen Con 2011 attendies

Indy is a pretty good convention city--I don't see it getting outgrown yet. Wish I could have made it this year. I like the earlier dates, though.

What's this about a skirmish game?

Will these be brand new sculpts or re-used from the old sets? Hmmm... sending that to Rule of Three.

Strange AD&D module found in closet

Grats dude! That _is_ rare. Haha, you should take it on the Antiques Roadshow!

    Gencon 2011... aggghrrr information overload

None of this gets me too excited except for the Plane Below and the (potentially) new setting. I wish they had followed prior years and announced the setting at GenCon, but I also understand the 6 month schedule policy. Really, the "6 month out" announcements may be the most interesting thing...

    Are forums representative of users?

Thanks for double-checking. I didn't have the time to look. So, the people who were spending were also posting, and didn't change after the premium weapons went in. The people who weren't spending also weren't posting, but did spend after the weapons went in. Did I summarize that correctly?

    Are forums representative of users?

Absolutely correct. The statistics we usually bring to bear on a problem are all based on dealing with sampling error--the error that comes from having a random sample of the full population. If it isn't a random sample, then the statistics are useless. Forums have people who, by definition...

    Are forums representative of users?

I totally agree that I wouldn't fit into this scenario at all. The guy offers an amazingly frank discussion about the player psychology. The developers were dead set against offering anything that gave you an advantage in game. Once they did some market research, they found that a significant...

    Are forums representative of users?

Sorry if you were confused. The presentation is very clear about it, though my memory may be a little unclear. 1) The total population average $.50 per month. 2) 75% of the population spent some money (I think that is right). 3) 20% of the population read the forums. 4) 2% of the population...

    Are forums representative of users?

We've tossed around the question of whether Enworld (or more generally, any forum) represents the true user base for RPGs. Mostly without any data. Maybe the following is relevant (hang with me, TL; DR. version a bottom). Ben Cousins, a general manager for a free-to-play video game division of...

Do you take gaming awards seriously?

I normally would have said zero, but Mouseguard running the board last year (I think?) certainly made me consider it.

In Defense of the Theory of Dissociated Mechanics

Oh, dang, I thought this thread was about Click and Clack from Cartalk. I love those guys and anybody who disagrees is having badwrongfun.* Anyways, to contribute something to this conversation. I've probably only played D&D with one person that really wanted a very...

    WotC RPG Dept. Re-Orgs

Ha! Not a personal reflection on Perkins! I was going off the fact that Perkins had actually DM'd for Wil Wheaton. B-)
