    Things I Miss....

I think the point in this thread (do threads really have points?) is that some people miss the fiddly subsystems. ;) For example, I, too, miss item saving throws. They added a lot of flavor and an extra hint of danger. But, they were a terrible pain, and a high level character could easily end...

Dungeons & Dragons Online is slowly changing my mind about Eberron

It is a very rich setting and even the least D&D stuff is still a lot of fun. My favorite part (and the hardest for a DM) is the pulp feel. My impression is that a lot of people just don't try to make their games that pulpy? The Keith Baker books do a good job of getting that across and so do...

    Things I Miss....

A few days ago, I wouldn't have agreed with most of this. But then I played Gammaworld for the first time and had to deal with all the randomness. It was very nostalgic!

Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

I have to admit that I, too, get annoyed when my players completely wipe out one of my monster's best powers with an ill-timed immediate action. One tough encounter being turned into easy-times is OK, but all of them becomes a problem. I have resorted to cheating. Sometimes, my attacks always hit!

    Gloomwrought Looks Good!

I have to admit that I am more tempted to pick it up now than I was before. Sounds like it might just be a good read, nevermind the crunch.

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

I think this view is greatly mistaken. There are lots of successful companies without this level of customer service; I disagree with your implication that companies ought to provide it. Some companies must make a trade off between customers. BMW cannot satisfy both the sports sedan customer and...

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

I disagree with both of the following points: Contention 1) OP says we are the opinion leaders. Contention 2) Umbran and Morrus say we don't represent the entire population. Contention 1 is wrong because we don't actually have a wide area of influence. A few people might, and there might be a...

    Best and worst con' practices

The con's success may ride on getting people into games in an orderly fashion, but my enjoyment mostly relies on the DMs. I wonder how good cons are about managing their judges? For example, only once have I've been asked to give feedback on a judge. Bad judges shouldn't be invited back and the...

Designers looking for mechanics feedback on Optimization Board

I love reading the CharOp guides so much... but I don't mention it in mixed company because of the reaction you get. I just want to avoid underpowered options! I foresee nerfing the "gold options" and bolstering or removing the "red options." I'm stoked, if that is what is happening.

WotC_Trevor is looking for questions for Rule of Three

    1. Any plans on a new DMG? What sort of content would potentially be included? 2. Any plans for a "Big Book of Skill Challenges"? (Related to question 1, I guess.) 3. What about another Dungeon Delve book?

    Online gaming

We use Skype with MapTools. We are satisfied, mostly, with it. My campaign is in Paragon Tier, so MapTools is great just for the condition tracking. In fact, we were able to play in person a month ago and we all sorta agreed we liked combat better virtually, though the roleplaying was better...

Second-Guessing Myself: Allow Teleporting While Falling?

I probably would have let him do it just for the cinematics... but, when players can do cool things, so can monsters.

Veteran of the Edition Wars [comedy]

No, no, no. Only major edition wars get medals. But you get an oak leaf cluster to indicate survival of multiple versions of the same edition. Oak leaf cluster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Fortunately, I have only earned one purple heart as the result of a campaign prematurely ended due...

Why I don't like Wealth by Level guidelines

I use wealth by level guidelines in two ways: 1) I rarely start at first level. I use the wealth level to establish the baseline. 2) I double check that my PCs have appropriate levels of wealth. I may give out too much or (more likely) too little and I need to add a correction for that. While...

Veteran of the Edition Wars [comedy]

    1) That is awesome. 2) I think an alternative would be to have "medals" like the army. You get one medal for each D&D transition you "survived."

IMPORTANT! Should EN World continue reporting RPG news?

I don't read it because it doesn't cover the WotC stuff that I would want to read.

How profitable is DDI to WotC?

I thought it was as high as 75,000 subscriptions, but I have no idea where I heard that number. I suspect that is the high end.

    New Legends & Lore

Sounds like D&D just can't be everything to everybody. It reminds me of the old joke: "A camel is a horse designed by committee."
