Question regarding the 7-Day RPG Contest

7-Day Contest Questions More like clarifying points than actual questions. 1) The entry that receives the most votes will get paid 2) You will publish only the games you want to publish 3) It is possible that someone else gets "paid" for the game you make (ie the winner of the vote gets the...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Lite?

I agree. Every edition of D&D focuses on combat, although in 1e/2e one could argue the focus was on treasure acquirement. Anyway, in the later version of D&D combat is front and center, which is easy to see simply based on a characters abilities as she levels. Most of the abilities are combat...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Lite?

What, specifically, do you consider rules bloat? I don't think there are many rules additions in PF. There are a ton of character options, but they tend to follow the same rules as all the other characters. Are you feeling that there are too many character options and you can't memorize them all...

Do you think more than 10 diagonal and curved walls is necessary?

    Skill System Suggestions

Yay, I make terms up it seems and fail to clarify them lol. Sorry about that. Just a picky point. DC was 15 for rough water. I think the player had a +2 maybe (never bothered to put in any ranks in swim or climb if I remember correctly, it was years ago). And the rolling was horribly bad which...

    Skill System Suggestions

I don't particularly want to hand-wave the encounters, unless they're simply obstacles rather than dramatic points of interest. But it may be nice to have a skill system that is designed to allow for something like the take 10/20 mechanic in situations that don't need dramatic tension. I don't know.

You were using it correctly and so was he. You were just using it as relevant to different aspects. I got what you meant without any need for clarification and others did as well. You don't need to take any blame for that, any more than anyone else using the word to apply to a different aspect...

Those are many of the maneuvers I'm currently using. I like some of your additional ones as well. The Leadership, aid other, for example. I guess the question I have, is do you require those maneuvers to be chosen, or are they just lumped in the skill and as long as you have ranks you can use...

Kickstarter Anyone supporting the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter

Okay, I'm getting on of each of the add-ons but I want one additional Dungeon Dressing pack. I'm having trouble deciding is it's worth getting getting an additional $60 set or $95 for two sets. I don't particular think I need more of any of the other add-ons (diagonal, round, or floors). I...

Rules Question: Can you use Phase Door while within a Dimensional Lock?

Phase door works just fine inside a dimensional lock. You are not engaging in extradimensional travel. You are not using a blocked form of extradimensional movement. You are creating a tunnel. All the other spells specifically mention traveling. Phase door is not a movement spell. It's a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creative and innovation?

Innovative? Yes. Feeling right? No. The people I was gaming with when 3e came out were not impressed by the Fort/Ref/Will because we had been using ability scores only for saving throws for over a decade. We never used the traditional D&D model because it never made any sense to us. Just roll...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I feel like I'm back in one my college literature courses. N'raac arguing only with the words written, the exact example, rather than seeing the deeper meaning of the text. Hussar arguing bigger ideas, while not playing close enough attention that his examples may cause confusion. This is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creative and innovation?

For me . . . I'm taking creative to mean the reorganization and display of mechanics to better represent the way the game plays. This might be 1e > 2e or 4e --> Essentials or 3e --> 3.5. I want 5e to be creative. I think it has to be. I'm taking innovative to mean the creation of new...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I'm in the camp that believes it doesn't matter how much the players know because they are expect to roleplay their character, not themselves. I can read over the entire adventure before the DM runs it and have zero problem roleplaying my character and not my metagame knowledge. I failed my...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Of course not. Nobody talks about plot like that. They talk about story and the emotional expression of those events. So replace action scene (excitement) with the first scene from star wars and you get the same thing. My example is just stripped away story. You could also replace it with the...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Plot is the series of events leading to a conclusion,. Overthrowing tyranny is the plot. The events that lead to the conclusion show to progression toward that plot. The entire point of having the events happen is to reach the conclusion, which is overthrowing tyranny. It seems that part of my...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

That's okay. I probably didn't address it clearly enough. I find that Plot and Story are completely different things and can't be used interchangeably. Consider this, Plot is the outline and story happens when you fill it in. The details of the story are unimportant to the plot as long as the...
