    [March] What are you playing?

Started ToEE last week, but just got UFO: Aftermath, and being an old XCOM junky, I imagine it will be eating my free time for a while :)

Real Professions anyone? or What did you do when you grew up?

Sure does, but do you pronounce it Frank-en-stein or Fronk-en-steen? :) I'm an RN at a local hospital.

What do you do with a cheating player!

Well, you can scroll back to my reply at the very top of the page :) , or I'll just link to it here: Dice rollers I'd assume this is what he means by dice tower.

Help me enworld, I need sewer encounters!

Ok, weird and zany (though cliched probably): The group is trudging through the sewer when they meet another group of 4 or 5 adventurers. This group appears to be very low level, their weapons appear to be made of wood, cloth padding(!), and very cheap metals; their armor looks very shoddy and...

tattoos, spikes, punk, and goth in D&D images?

Even this is not cut and dried, though :) I like anime style for sci-fi future and modern games. Hate it for fantasy games.

    Good Players

My group does not have the strongest grasp of the rules. Their tactics leave a lot to be desired. Roleplay is not their forte (though it's improving). Beyond the PHB, they haven't shown a huge desire to purchase or use supplements. Getting our schedules to line up and have time to play can be a...

    DM tips on planning encounters...

Also, save everything. I have folders on my computer full of stuff I have statted out in the past plus downloaded creatures, NPCs, BBEGs, locations, plots, etc. that I have collected here and there, and when I need something I check there first and if something is suitable I just file off the...

Druids, The City Guard and Animal Companions

I pretty much use the rule of generally leaving it outside. As Southern Oracle said, it's still a wild animal; the PHB/DMG guidelines essentially state that it feels the druid is a friend and it will tolerate the other party members, but that's about that. I can't see the typical bear companion...

    EN Worlder Birthdays!

Thanks, Mark! And happy birthday to all the other early Marchers (March Forth makes present lists very easy :) )

What do you do with a cheating player!

It's unfortunate but I have to agree, once bitten by the dice cheat, he'll fudge a lot of other stuff :( You can at least slow down the dice cheating by using a box like said above, or go the dice roller route.

[DMs] How Detailed Do You Get In Your Descriptions of Wounds and Gore?

I get into some detail if it's an important fight, a PC or important NPC dies or is crippled, or if a particularly nasty amount or type of damage is done. Otherwise, it tends to take the form of "you barely scratched her" or "that was a nasty pinch, he'll feel the bruise in the morning." I used...

    Hirst Arts: Fountain

Well done fountain, very nice! I also love the plants; not enough people give a thought to detailing their miniature dungeons/castles/what-have-you with stuff like that to give it a lived-and-died-in look; most dungeons I've seen look like a party has already been through ahead of you and...

For Players: How do you feel about House Rules?

Very rare that I play anymore, but when I did on a regular basis I felt house rules had to be stated up front and had to make sense to the majority of the party. A few times house rules were instituted later in the game, but it was with the agreement of all involved. This is pretty much the same...

    Casting while Feather Falling

Got no problem with casting while Falling. IMO falling is in one direction (down), takes no concentration to maintain, and has to be less strenuous and jarring than casting while walking or flying.

    Mistake in TTT? (SPOILER WARNING)

That doesn't fit in with Treebeard's later "I told Gandalf I'd keep you safe, and safe is where I'll keep you" statement as he's carrying them along the next time you see the three of them, so I don't think they could have mistaken him for Saruman.

Which book(s) 'did it' for you?

The World of Greyhawk folio. Those huge, beautiful maps, and the Gazeteer detailing a little of the history and politics of each place on the map opened my eyes to the possibility that adventures could be in a place that stayed consistent and had a reason for existing other than simply a...

You Got Sci-Fi in my Fantasy!

Been a genre mixer ever since the first Best of Dragon where I read about the mixing of Metamorphosis Alpha and D&D. Went on to DM and love Barrier Peaks, did a Gamma World crossover, I've got the monsters from Tremors in my FR campaign now, can't wait until my players uncover the Gnomish...

    Motivation in Low Magic

Kill them and take their stuff still works, it just leads to more of an old school type dungeon romp where the PCs bring wagons and mules to the dungeon so they can cart out the tables, the door fixtures, all the weapons and tattered armor, and anything else they can possibly sell.

Do fumbles add anything to the game?

Absolutely love fumbles; they've added some wonderfully hilarious moments to the game. I don't go as grim and gritty as a lot of folks do though. Even then, I'd probably still use them, as I like what the old Dragon articles from several millenia ago ("Good Hits and Bad Misses" and "How Hrothgar...
