RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

FWIW (and it's not worth that much)... I've played a lot of LFR in the last six months or so, for various and sundry reasons. In the last month, I've been playing some LFR online using MapTool. This is handy because it means I can draw semi-direct comparisons. The average LFR module I've...

[Goodman/Dancey on 4E] RPGs in the 21st Century - towards another "generational peak"

There's an interesting bit of phrasing in there, by the by, regarding the settings: "In terms of gross revenue, TSR earned a lot more from '87 on than it had earned up to that point." And: "The key to the Model 2 years was that all though none of the individual campaign settings in TSR's...

    KotS Party Situation.. (long)

That's what I did in a similar situation; it worked very well. I also had the hobgoblins sack Winterhaven on the way out.

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

This is exactly the place where I'd want to talk through the use of Intimidate with Gumph. I mean, it's a cool skill -- this thread has convinced me I want to see my players use it more. I wouldn't decide we were a bad gaming fit until he accused me of wild, purposeful misinterpretations of the...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

I'm sorry you feel that way. Nonetheless, you wouldn't be welcome at my table. In my experience, removing players who prioritize being right over cooperative gameplay is a big win for the health of the gaming group.

    Local Game Store Tour

I'll do that -- sometime in the next month or so my sweetie and I will stop by, once we've moved and settled in.

    H2 Thunderspire Labyrinth doubt

In my experience, bronze warders generating lots of OAs is a good thing, since they have a fairly ridiculous number of hit points otherwise -- the first encounter where they show up can be very tedious if they're not provoking OAs. And yeah, they always provoke, poor things.

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

That's true; that would be bad DMing. What I would do is this: I would say "hey, I don't think your preferred play style fits with my DMing style, so if this is a deal-breaker for you I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave the table." I can't imagine this would be objectionable -- why...

    Local Game Store Tour

I'm gonna be in Cockeysville, so right up the road from Towson. But Fallston doesn't look like much of a trek.

    Local Game Store Tour

How's Legends Comics and Games in Towson? I'm about to move and I think that's the closest gaming store -- there's a comics store in a stripmall that's closer, but it's light on non-4e stuff.

    rptools.net down?

It was down earlier today (errors), then unreachable, then up again briefly, and now it's showing a generic hosting provider page. Fingers crossed.

WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

Fitting in the room is not a problem. However, that's an awful lot of rubble if they're all able to hide effectively in it.

WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

Mearl's moathouse also has three 2x3 rooms in it, fwiw. I don't see this as an issue, in any case, considering that the majority of the fight is going to take place in the entrance room and the room up the stairs, which have plenty of room for a 4e fight. On the other hand, researching this did...

House Rules & Colored Markers - a sort of advice contest with free stuff!

I use index cards for initiative order -- my monster cards have all the stats for a given monster on them, plus hit point tracking, which is very handy. I have my Alea Tools colors matched up with colored paperclips, so instead of scribbling conditions onto the cards, I can just add a paperclip...

    Professional GM: Resurrection and Rebirth

Don't ask us for validation. It'll either work or it won't work; at this point, you don't need forums to tell you how it will go.

Any other DDI Character Builder Sheet Templates?

I can't speak for Adobe's stuff, but XPath makes it pretty simple. E.g., the query to get the Stat/Str node: /D20Character/Stat[@name='Strength']/ And then just add on parameters to get to the value or whichever other element you want. This is way better than the old XML, which looked like...

    Boston Game Stores?

Also the Compleat Strategist, which is down on Mass Ave. in Boston proper. Easy subway access, good stock although much more cramped than Pandemonium.

Countdown-timer at Green Ronin...? What's it all about?

"Something old, something new, something needed, something overdue." "You'll find great adventure beyond the gate." (From their Twitter.) Green Ronin's official announcement of Pathfinder compatibility for their 3rd Age products, revamped as Fourth Age? I see no mention of gates in the...

    D&D 4E Stalker0's Alternate 4e Paladin: The Crusader

That works. And yeah, Tempus is superbroken. :) But they all pretty much break. Bane: every at will becomes a basic melee attack with +Str damage bonus. Berronar's Salve: everyone gets to spend a healing surge whenever they drop to 0 hit points. Chauntea's Blessing: nobody ever fails a saving...

    D&D 4E Stalker0's Alternate 4e Paladin: The Crusader

Can't do this -- a paladin of Tempus, for example, would be able to auto-crit on every hit. Other channel divinity feats create similar problems. You could say that paladins can't use feat powers with channel divinity, but that's a bit patchy for my tastes.
