This story hour is what made me figure out how to subscribe to a thread. Kudos to you, sir.

    Fighter/Paladin Multiclass Marking

I think that according to the PHB update released by WotC, the fighter can only use Combat Challenge on someone he has marked. If that fighter also happens to be multi-ed into paladin, they're all still his marks. IMO.

Lots of statistics from the Monster Manual

What we could really use now is a table of PC attacks by defense targetted and level. Anyone seen one yet? :D

    Coupe de Grace: auto hit?

The coup de grace has combat advantage (+2 to hit) and the target has -5 to all defenses for being unconscious. Helpless and prone both grant combat advantage, but I don't think they stack with each other.

    Warlord Exploit - Commander's Strike

Looking over the warlord powers, I think either Hail of Steel (enc lvl 17) or Stir the Hornet's Nest (daily lvl 25) could have once bore that great title.

    Warlord Exploit - Commander's Strike

As I imagine it, the warlord menaces the enemy, maybe fouling up their weapon with his, distracting them and opening up a hole in their defense for another ally to take advantage. The smarter the warlord, the better opening he makes for the ally to really hurt the enemy. As I read it, it seems...

Can a PC get threathening reach?

Planting your pikes and raising them when the officer gives the signal != AoO. Readied actions, yo.

    D&D 4E Flanking in 4E

Ankle biting is an unarmed attack. Also, a prone opponent with a loaded crossbow (or a sword, or a spear...) behind me is gonna make me concerned for my delicate nethers.

Poll: Which Wizard 5th daily is best?

Bigby's Icy Grasp -Pros: Sustainable, good for rooting an opponent you don't want to deal with in melee. -Cons: Target is only immobilized, so no combat advantage vs. it. Target can escape easily enough, as the hand resists with a wizard's fortitude or reflex defense. -Thoughts: Not digging this...

Deadly Axe Feat - Is there a point?

    New weapon property: "So Deadly"

    Quarterstaff and TWF

Though the Class Feature is called Two-Blade Fighting, the rules say any one-handed weapon is usable. And if a ranger player wanted to use a quarterstaff, I'd probably just say it does 1d6 per end and be done with it.

    Halfling Rogue Pregen Question.

Basic attacks in melee seem to always Strength-based for attack and damage, while basic attacks at range seem to be based on Dex. The rogue powers, however, are all Dex-based (at least the ones we've seen), regardless of whether you are using them in melee or at range. The common assumption on...

A few comments from a playtester

    True Strike and Shield, yo.

    D&D 4E Three general 4e mechanics questions.

So you can get some crazy bonuses (boni?) to your save to put out flames if you sacrifice actions to do it, but could you do the same against ongoing acid damage? Or ongoing X damage from whatever element you choose? I can see fire spells becoming a whole lot less desirable for casters if the...

    Dragonshield Tactics

Good tactics often start off as dumb luck, then become something deliberate once the players find out the trick. It is a lot less complex than it looks (especially with my assumption that shifting triggers just like any other movement). That's why all good GMs punch their players in the face...

    Dragonshield Tactics

I would say these kobolds with the shields had taken a couple fencing classes. The ability allows them to advance and retreat decently enough to maintain distance with a single foe. When that foe backpedals, the kobold advances. When that opponent advances, the kobold backpedals. I disagree...

    4e Battle Music! My Dilemma.

Haven't used too much music in my games recently, but there's a soft spot in my heart for the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. Perfect for wilderness travel and the occasional battlefield, or just as general background music. The song "Eifersucht" by Rammstein has done me well for fights with...

Minions. The DM knows 'em. Do the players?

Well, at least the audience could tell. I don't think poor Boromir caught on until the third arrow. For the sake of dramatic tension, the audience is often privy to information that the main characters are not. I mean if it's something obvious, like a big pissed-off troll or an orc with a...
