    Broadsword

You take a halberd for more damage and to trip, but have to use two hands. You take a spiked chain to be uber. You can't compare them to a long sword. What you're asking is more akin to "Why take a longsword from Waterdeep when I can take a longsword from Cormyr?" Want flavor? Buy a long...

    Broadsword

3.0 got rid of the broadsword. It was a staple through 1e and 2e. In the grand scheme of things, why take a long sword at 1d8 if you can take a broad sword at 2d4 with a better average damage?

There were better than that... (going from memory) Detect Life 1/2 Somatic Component: Place index and middle finger on target's inner wrist. Neutralize Poison 1/2 Somatic Component: Insert index finger down target's throat. IMC, we use Detect Life 1/2 all the time, we even call it that :)

GM seeking monster for long term relationship...

My vote is for Bodak's... who the heck ever uses a bodak for anything? Just take a DM liberty and increase their INT to 10 or 12, and let them start gaining levels as the CR requirement increases. Just remember, they want to hide what they are, so stay away from using the death gaze unless...

    Converting Maztica and Horde monsters

Ok, closest large bug I can find online, that actually includes a weight, is the giant millipede - 1 ft long, but only .44 lbs. and they're more heavily armored than a millipede. But 44 lbs seems way too light for a 100 ft long animal, so lets go exponentially, and make it either 4400lbs or 440...

I second the vote for starting at gargantuan, keeps it more 'realistic' when comparing it to a dragon of similar strength (all but gold in the 34-35 strength cat are G). Hit dice seem about right compared to the closest thing we have to a similar creature in 3.5, triceratops (coming in at 16 to...

Ok, here's what I got. To avoid making it just a smaller T-Rex, he has piddly little claw attacks, and goign with a Michael Chrieton appraoch, gave him a chameleon ability. CR might be a bit off... ---- Allosaurus Huge Animal Hit Dice: 12d8+48 (105 hp) Initiative: +1 Speed: 40 ft. (8...

Occult Slayer... ideas and opinions please.

If you're gonna have access to arcane spells, why not skip the fighter and invest in dragon disciple? The uberness!

Ok, getting on the original track... Hyena's are in the Miniature's Handbook, which I don't have access to. And I'd want to see the stats for one before I try to 'adon' it.

    "Classic" Dragon Articles

I thought someone would've already said "The Whole Half-Ogre" by now... Gem Dragons "A Different Bard, Not Quite so Hard" cause I hated the 3 class thing you had to go through. Anti-Paladin... and wasn't there an article with a paladin for each alignment? "The Worthless Character"...

I was thinking of entangle, but snare would work too.

Most animals have scent... I do agree with the trample, though, not really that kind of dinosaur.

For the life of me, I can't find the thread. I have the original file at work, I'll just post it tomorrow.

What are the best names for characters that you've heard?

In a reverse dungeon, I played 3 goblins named Bud, Wei, and Zurr (he couldn't spell well). My favorite two names though were Wippit Guud - go figure (gnome thief) and Sukkit Dowwen (goblin thief). Both 2e, so thief is the class.
