Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

I've had good success with n+5 for the encounter budget for a single encounter meant to really push them to near limits.

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

I'm one of those who is perfectly happy with the 4e Monster Manuals. As far as monster fluff goes, you can find some of that within Dragon articles, but I really prefer to season everything to my own tastes anyway. That being said, I would like to see some (actually good) fluff prodcuts from...

    Rate Avatar (James Cameron)

I thought it was fantastic! I never found myself not enjoying whatever was on screen. I gave it a solid 9 and I'm sure to watch the movie again and again over the years.

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all (regardless of which version of this game you prefer)! Have a wonderful time with family and friends; there is really nothing better in all the world.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

This is a great thread. Thanks for sharing. As to tracking conditions, what I did was in addition to each player tracking their own conditions I have each player track those conditions that they have placed on their opponents. This has done two things: 1) As the DM, I only have to worry about...

    Punishing Your Dice

Back in the 80s we used to toss change into our die bags to appease the pagan die gods for good luck. Today I just fire my dice when they roll poorly (by announcing "you're fired" and then tossing them back into my die box to place them on timeout. I don't actually believe in any of this stuff...

    [December] What are you reading?

I'm reading Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson and Lamentation by Ken Scholes. Both are so good that I find it hard to focus entirely on one at the other's expense.

    Current Inspirations?

My campaigns have always been inspired by art (I can spend hours browsing conceptart.org). Past that, I currently find a lot of inspiration in such novels as the Kingkiller Chronicle (Patrick Rothfuss), the Malazan Book of the Fallen (Steven Erikson), the Psalms of Isaak (Ken Scholes), and...

I love it when a Campaign Arc comes together

My wife, family members, and friends I've known so long that I just count decades instead of years. Very reliable in my experience.

I love it when a Campaign Arc comes together

I do a lot of long plotting for my games and, over the years, my players have learned to start taking notes early. They'll even go as far as having meetings (complete with whiteboard diagrams) where they try to crystalize what they know (or think they know) and what they think that means. As to...

    Tracking Combat (Monster Cards?)

Wow, I'd go crazy trying to keep up with that many cards! You must rock the world at those card memory games (flipping a card to see what picture it has and then finding its mate).

No one discussing "The Plane Below"?

I look at 4e books for tools, not inspiration. D&D hasn't has inspiring fluff since the 2e days anyway (Al'Qadim, Birthright, Ravenloft, Planescape, Spelljammer, Dark Sun, etc.). There is plenty of inspiration to be had in novels (non D&D novels, that is). :)

    Star Wars:The Clone Wars...

I absolutely love the show. Yes, I would have gone with a different character design (some I like [Obi-Wan, Dooku], others I don't [Anakin]), but the environments, ships, and stories make it well worth it. I just nabbed Season 1 on Blu-Ray.

No one discussing "The Plane Below"?

I'm pretty sure it is sitting under the tree in my living room, but I'm really looking forward to giving it a read!

    Tracking Combat (Monster Cards?)

Yes, I print my monsters out on 4"x6" cards and store them in a cade case with alphabetical tabs. It works great! I run three games and I am slowly building a library to use over and over again. With the cards, I can freely mix and match monsters for encounters without the need to reprint...

    Street D&D in San Francisco

I would have been put off by the costume. If he had dressed normally, I'd have played given the availability. Still, I applaud the effort.
