    Cliche Character Introductions?

I do much the same as for a new campaign. I work with the player to find a hook into the events of the campaign and draw them in with the other characters. If the group is in a dungeon, obviously that is much harder. Depending on how far they have to go they may push on without the one player...

    Presentations for your game

I like the letters idea! Speaking in character through NPCs can bring a lot of flavor to a setting. As for hidden beneficial rules, that's sneaky of you...I approve. :]

Try this one instead (I think I pointed to an earlier copy that didn't have the proper embedded options selected).

    Presentations for your game

That's really odd. When I sent it to other PCs it has all been there. Did you actually play the PowerPoint (hit F5)?

    Presentations for your game

Over the years, I’ve started many a campaign. Usually, I would type up some campaign background and distribute the document to my players and hope they’d read it, but found that in practice the information didn’t really penetrate into my players. Frustrated with the results I went searching...

    Cliche Character Introductions?

Yeah, it's certainly more work, but it is exactly the work I enjoy as a DM. Cranking out encounters is okay, I guess, but I really love developing story and setting and watching it all work together. All of my campaigns feel like a story more than they feel like what I'd consider a typical D&D...

    My 4E Wishlist

I could go for a book of artifacts. I'd love to see a book on the Feywild. I also really liked the environmental series that 3e had (e.g. Sandstorm, Frostburn, and Stormwrack).

    Runequest

We played a ton of the Avalon Hills version of RQ back in high school (84'-88') and it was a ton of fun. Though I don't know how much I'd like it today, it was probably our 3rd favorite game (behind AD&D and FASERIP Marvel).

    Cliche Character Introductions?

I just started a new campaign two days ago and here is how I got the characters together: Two of the characters (a paladin/fighter and a warden) shared a common background and were on the lam from some vampiric city-states I have in the far north of my campaign. As they were coming to a city...

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

I do the following for my campaigns: I have all of my monsters printed up on 4x6 cards (no book flipping), which is a big time saver and it makes it easy to mix and match for encounters I keep those cards right in front of me and roll in the open I have a player track our initiative cards Each...

    pacing experience and large groups

I have seven players in one of my campaigns, so I know just what you mean. Honestly, this is what I do and it works great. Determine the treasure parcels that need to be ditributed over the course of the level to keep game balance in tact Take experience points and thrown them out the window...

    Couple of rules questions

    2) Yes it provkes an Opportunity Attack (and tell your DM to quit being a goob and let you have your fun).

    Is the DM always right?

I'll add my voice to the "The DM isn't always right, but the DM's word is final" crowd. I do have a couple of rules-lawyer players, but I'm a rules-lawyer myself. Sure, there are times we don't agree, but that's bound to happen. I make rulings based not only one what the rules are, but what is...

    The "Bubble"

Yeah, this is something I've seen pop up in our games. It seemed to be the ultimate way to deny your enemy the ability to return attack. In the end I had to make a ruling that is good for the game and thus I allow the character to stand up and charge to the "nearest square from which you can...

    A long and winding road...

I did for a short stint. /shudder Personally I found myself extremely frustrated with 3.5 after having played 4e for a while. We had a TPK after a few sessions and I'm (somewhat) ashamed to say I was happy for it. You asked! Anyway, the good news is that you had fun going back. Regardless of...

4e Extravaganza Seminar (with Cover Pics)

...and here I thought this thread was about upcoming products. Somehow it is now about the rpg supplement business model. If we're going to change it from the OP (which is rude of us), can we at least make it about something good, like chocolate cake? Or which cheese is better...cheddar or...
