Possibly dumb poll: Playing vs. Running D&D Editions

I would never play or run 3E/3.5E again. I would not run AD&D 1E because I tried within the past year and it was just too much trouble trying to find things I needed in those books, although I love the feel of the game. I'd play or run any of the rest, and sometimes do!

    Epic Faerun Article

Deadly Rickster is mentioned but not described. What gives? ;)

    Halving Hitpoints

Since this problem seems to be happening across the board, has WotC ever commented officially on it? Have the designers commented in blogs? It seems like they poorly playtested the game, if everyone is having a problem with fights dragging due to too many HP.

    D&D 4E Grid-less 4e?

For blasts I'd just make a judgment call and let PCs group in a few monsters if it seemed they were relatively close together in my description of things. There's no reason to be so precise with magic. It's magic. For other blasts, use description to make sense of it.

    D&D 4E Grid-less 4e?

I seriously considered it last night! I intend to attempt it still, just not with the main group of PCs. I really want to do a test and see how it works, because the grid and minis route is starting to feel a bit confining. I'll report back if it happens...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Clearly, you need to do a better job. ;) What was the fallacy?

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Yes and no, mostly no. I am running it, and there's a lot to like. I love it in theory! But in actually playing I am finding the constant need to keep track of powers and little bonuses here and there for attacks, etc. is becoming more trouble than it's worth. Especially because each PCs...

Does Metaplot ever work? Forked Thread: Greyhawk 4e

No, metaplot never works and only exists because some people misunderstood the point of RPG gaming. It was compounded by bad advice given in rulebooks over the years "It's like a TV series!" until it became a given that RPGs were all about stories, and that game publishers needed to provide the...

    M1: Dragora's Dungeon

Ape men? Sounds incredibly "fantasy" and sword & sorcery to me. Can you describe them better? Also, is this adventure a plot railroad "story time" adventure or an open, exploration of a dungeon type affair?

    D&D 4E 4e Dungeon Master's Screen - whoa

I don't want to even use a screen, but looking the stuff up during the game was no fun either, so I have it and am using it as a reference more than a way to hide things. I don't like a barrier between me and the rest of the game but at least it is low. Nice to see they "got it" in regards to...

What 4e products have you purchased?

I have the core rulebooks gift set (with handsome slipcase!) and the DM screen. That's all. WotC is not impressing me so far with the other stuff...

    Now Is This A Promise?

I don't have the answer, but I can promise I will not be subscribing. :p

Role playing to the detriment of the game

Remind such players that the point of gathering to play an RPG is to enjoy a game and have fun. The roleplaying is a part of that, but is not the entire point of it! If they don't get that, kick them out of the group, as they are problem players and don't care about you or your other players...

D&D 4E Greyhawk 4e: Back to the Beginning...

I love the ideas, hope the poster was correct, and wish WotC had rebooted all the campaign worlds from the beginning, literally. And then never advanced the timeline again except in optional supplements that add to the base assumptions of the core world book(s). Since they suggest not porting...

    WotC announced non-randomized minis

To make even more money and garner goodwill from the segment of players that dislike randoms but will buy non-randoms? Because they are needed for the RPG, not just the minis game?

One major thing I sure miss...

I'm also not excited about anything announced so far from WotC. I think I will get the PHB2 when it's out, assuming I am still playing 4E then, but that's honestly about it. So far I have the 3 main books and the DM screen. I'm really excited about the stuff Necromancer Games was planning...

Why Did The Cleric Have Spells?

The true story is the Cleric was a response to Sir Fang, a vampire PC in Dave Arneson's game who had gotten too powerful. The Cleric was based on Hammer horror films. I'm guessing Gygax added the more medieval take later.

    4e Ravenloft - Dragon 368

I don't honestly have high hopes for this. This setting seems the least suited for 4E. I'd much rather see Dark Sun. Speculation: the domains will sometimes overlay existing sites in the real world, rather than have PCs travel to the demiplane.

    Are Published Adventures Too Long?

I think they are too long, and generally always have been. But I tend to like published materials as a basis for inspiration and then deviate or rewrite them almost completely. I've always found them a chore to read and run, and the new encounter-centric format is, for me, not an improvement.
