    Farewell to thee D&D

That's what happened when 3E came out as well. The only difference now is that the previous edition is open and other companies may continue to support it if the players are there and remain loyal. Absolutely false. You must not have looked very hard for such communities.

Dungeons & Dragons Editions: Where Do You Stand?

I really have no preference. I will never be involved with 3E/3.5E again ~snark removed~, but any other edition I will gladly play or run. I voted 2E simply because it's the one I had the most experience with when I was younger, and still feel pretty familiar with it.

Recharging when the tank is empty: Gaining encounter powers back on natural 20's

I like this version. Make it the player's choice.

Random Treasure Generator (Version 2 now available)

Just a sincere thank you for working on this, Appleseeth!

Keeping track of bloodied, marked, etc...

If a PC puts a condition like that on a monster I make the players remember and remind me. If the monster does it to them, I make the players remember and remind me. Sometimes I don't get reminded. Oh well, the game goes on...

Has 4e caused a great rift between gamers?

Short memory, or just a bad one? :) Edit: Let me clarify that a bit. Last time the rift happened it was happening between people who liked 3E and those who said it wasn't at all like AD&D anymore. Now that it's happening to the 3E/3.5 set, it seems to them that nobody has ever had their...

    Farewell to thee D&D

D&D has been a trollop for a long time now. How did you not notice?

How have you handled the campaign denouement?

I don't agree that the Star Wars celebration was hokey, but I think your idea of ending a "campaign" like that is very hokey. Also, when did campaign come to mean "a story" and not "a particular GM's world"? Greyhawk was a campaign (Gary's), and players and their PCs came in and out of it for...

DM's: How much cheating do you have to do?

I make all rolls in the open and do not cheat on anything. If the PCs die, so be it. They will learn from it, and it will make for an entertaining story they can recall in the future. DM cheating just cheats players. Let them succeed or fail by their own merits, not because you say so. I'd...

    Random Treasure Table?

I hadn't seen the previous mention. I know it's a lot of work to make something like that, but if you should ever finish it and share, it would be much appreciated!

Is it just me, or are WotC minis...

There have always been a range of silly monsters and cool ones, but I do feel that there are many more silly ones now than there used to be. Creatures used to be drawn heavily from legend, myth and folklore. Now they seem to be designed based on what a cool power or look would be (by someone...

What do you think about the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Book

My thoughts, exactly. The grey box had a feel to it that no other version has managed to match. They all feel watered down or too vastly different to actually be the Realms. And what I feared about the new 4E version is that they would change it then waste time explaining how it changed...

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Actually, 4E reminded me how, even as different as 4E is, 3E/3.5E is the only version of the game that is not D&D-like and that I never want to play or be involved with again. It was missing a certain feel that is central to the D&D experience. Every edition but 3rd has it. 3rd is like an...

    Identify Magic Items

Actually, the GM still can do anything he or she wishes.

What "Official" WotC D&D products do you use?

I use the core books, but nothing you've listed as accessories. I may use the DM screen if I end up buying it.

D&D 4E How do you run attack rolls in 4e?

I have the defenses written down, but find it difficult to reference them. I usually ask the players what their defenses are unless I remember, or it's obvious the attack was higher than anyone's defenses. Also, I do roll in the open, so everyone can see what happened and the player involved...

    Random Treasure Table?

Not so. My players would like random treasure distribution... so would I as DM. It adds a certain unpredictability to this game which is fun. Random treasure has been a part of every previous version of D&D and has been there for a good reason. Unpredictability and randomness is in many...

    Anyone make a treasure program?

I'm surprised nobody has made an online generator that handles random treasure parcel list generation as per the DMG, based on the party level. If I knew anything about how to do it, it's probably the first thing I'd have made.

Maybe different versions just have different goals, and that's okay.

Thank you for this... if I used sig lines I'd want to borrow the bolded part. :) I am so sick of older D&D being summed up (usually so it may be dismissed) using that overly-simplistic and wrong-headed phrase about killing things and taking their stuff. 'Twas not the case in older editions...

Return of the 2-Bladed Sword! (and an Adv. Vault preview)

Two-bladed double swords (double axes, etc.) were one of the stupidest things 3E introduced, and I was hoping they'd never return. I'm not too upset though, since they are in a supplement rather than the main rulebooks. This is all optional stuff, so why sweat it?
