    Apocalyptic Settings and Breaking Settings

Interesting, since that was, arguably, the very first piece of the expanded universe, debuting approximately the same time as Zahn's Heir to the Empire books. There were a few spinoffs back when the movies were originally out, but nobody called those "expanded universe" works. And... I had...

    Black or white?

Lucky you. Yeah, black sites mess with my eyes badly. I voted white, but of course black will win. :hmm:

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

Considering the thread title, what did you expect to happen?

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

When someone makes a turn-based computer game with 4E mechanics I might get interested. Something like a modern version of the old gold box SSI ones. D&D rules and real-time battles don't mix very well.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

Bravo. You hit the nail on the head with that one. Pity most people will just dismiss what you are saying rather than try to understand.

Please verify: you can threaten while unarmed.

Why would you drop it? Just let go of it with one hand and use the free hand to punch with... unarmed attack!

    Changeover poll

I'm currently playing 4E, AD&D 2nd edition and Holmes D&D. I can't fathom why someone would want to "change over" to the newest game entirely... The various editions are all different, and best suited for particular types of play, none of which have become obsolete. 4E doesn't do what AD&D...

Pathfinder 1E D&D4 and Pathfinder can coexist

I think it's childish to argue about such things, but it happens every time there's a new edition. The "edition wars" from the switch to 4e doesn't even seem as bad as the one to 3e (which is the first time the core game was changed in major, fundamental ways.) Just get used to it, as I...

    4E is unacceptable

To the OP: It's all in your head. I have the 4E books, have been playing, consider them complete, and haven't even looked at the errata. If there's ever a problem (none so far) I'll make a ruling on it and move on. If an element I want is "missing", I'll make up something. That's what DM's...

How 4e Could be GREAT for 3pp...

I agree, and I also think WotC should release all prior editions of the game under the OGL, as a good faith gesture to the community, since it's clear they are not going to ever republish them or use them to make money again. I don't expect it to happen though, and am skeptical about how open...

WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD

Hopefully they are taking Clark's advice. I want 4e stuff from Necromancer! Although I'm starting to feel like the launch of 4e was some kind of Beta test (or at least premature) at this point. So many revisions and clarifications... not to mention unfinished online aspects. Disappointing...

Literal reading vs common sense - which should take precedence?

As with every edition, you should never be a slave to the rules, especially if your group isn't digging them.

How is experience divided up in D&D 4th?

It is divided, and has always been divided through every edition of D&D. You won't be finding proof, your DM is doing it correctly.

    Assassin Class

That wasn't true when it was printed in the 2E rulebooks as an excuse for removing the "not politically correct" Assassin class, and it's still not true. If it were, there'd be no need for Fighter, since it's just a person who picks up a weapon and fights (which anyone can do), etc. Sticking a...

Split the Tree: Help me convince a player who doesn't agree

You know, I don't mind making rulings on unclear things in a game, but I admit I'm disappointed in how 4e descriptions are written. On the one hand, they are brief and to the point, so you don't have to read much in order to understand them... in theory. The problem is that many power...

Unclear on how kobolds work (stats/attacks)

Wow, "spoiled" by 3e because all monsters had to follow elaborate PC rules. That's a new one. :)
  17. J

What do you do with the updates?

I haven't even really read it. If we hit a snag while playing I'll make a ruling that works and move on. That's what a DM does.

    Gleemax is Dead

Consider it a sad commentary on just how poorly WotC handled Gleemax. They managed to turn-off nearly everyone with their lousy implementation of an idea that many here have stated they loved (in theory).

Tensir's Floating disk of do everything + Cranky DM

We did it, we envisioned them sitting back to back on the disc. Why would you hold PCs outside of an encounter to the 5 foot square?

Tensir's Floating disk of do everything + Cranky DM

I simply allow it to do whatever makes sense in a given situation given the bare minimum stats in the book description. So far all it's been used for is to cart back characters who fell in battle while the party retreats for an extended rest. ;)
