    Boni

Wow, I've never even heard of "boni" before. I must be so fundamentally naive! As for "gish," I've heard of it but never actually seen it in use. There was a brief period of time when I used the term "fuser," for fighter/magic-user. It was from an old Dragon magazine article. A...

    Paladins - likes and dislikes?

I like the concept of a holy warrior/crusader. I like the saving throw bonuses. I like the ability to turn undead and the spell list. I like the bonded mount, but I dislike the 3.5 "pokemount." I recognize that in most games, mounts are simply a mode of transportation from one place to...

    AWESOME Idea from rpg.net...

I've always wanted to run a D&D game where the PCs are actually interstellar colonists in a "sleeper" ship on its way to a nearby solar system. The fantasy world is an elaborate VR simulation designed to keep the colonists' brains active during the trip. In this case, the BBEG trying to...

    Fresh Campaign Setting Sought

Thirded. The IK sourcebooks have a level of detail seldom seen in RPG settings. The first chapter of the main book covers the different planets in the solar system, the moons, the holidays, and most importantly, the mythology behind it all. And it works.

    XP and time passages

I don't have any rules that limit the rate of XP or level advancement, and I don't think there is a need for any. If the PCs are facing armies of orcs on a daily basis, then they will logically shoot up in level faster than an adventuring company that hits a dungeon once every couple of weeks...

    RANT: Attacks of Opportunity

We used to have attacks of opportunity as a house rule in 2nd edition (we called them "free hits"), although like most things back then, it was up to the DM whether or not we (or the NPCs) got one based on common sense. When I DM 3.5, I still adjudicate AoOs based on common sense. I don't...

How long did your Shackled City campaign last?

See, what you have to do is give that book to your DM as a birthday or Christmas gift. That's what I did. Our characters are now 5th level. :D

    New OotS is up. (#368)

Clearly she is a 3.X paladin; earlier editions had a minimum Charisma score of 17 for paladins. :p

    What is your party composition?

Human cleric 5 Human warlock 5 Human rogue 4/monk 1 Half-elf fighter 5 drow swashbuckler 2/fighter 2/scout 1 (yes, I am the oddball) We had a human bard 3 (level-drained from 4 by a vampire) up until last session, when the player had to drop out due to schedule conflicts. No word yet on...

    Suggest Some Anti-RttTOEE Adventures

I found myself in the exact same situation over the last year. Our group had just finished RttToEE and we wanted something different. I ran an Eberron game with no overarching plotline, just a bunch of individual adventures that had (with one or two exceptions) nothing to do with each other...

    "Age of Worms" Hardcover?

I know that's why I held off on buying any of the AoW issues of Dungeon. I'd rather have the entire AP in a single book than a dozen individual magazines that can get lost or easily ruined. Then again, it would be easier to take a single magazine with you to a session than a huge book like the...

    Title for Female Knights

Actually, Star Trek did it long before BSG ever did. And ma'am is short for madam, which is a bastardized form of "my dame." FYI. :)

    Should Dragon publish mini settings?

Agreed. I really loved the re-imagining of Spelljammer they did and can't wait to use it for a campaign setting one of these days.

Iconic Monster Use - The Aboleth

Once as a player and once as a DM.

    Character voices

I do it sometimes when portraying NPCs. The elves in one campaign had British accents, which I thought was appropriate since they were Imperialist a-holes. When they spoke elven, however, I dropped the accent. I thought it was clever, at least. *shrug* The last dwarf I played had a Scottish...

With enough Animate Object spells, you too can have a treasure horde!

Legitimate light source for those underdark crawls...

That's great news! Now my party can release their glow-pigs to roam free in the wild, as nature intended! :D

FLGS in Long Beach, CA & how to get there?

I haven't been there in ages, but they used to sell RPGs. Their specialty was wargames, though. Guessing by the name (it used to be called Balboa Something-or-other), it still is. No clue on public transportation, though.

XP progression: too fast, too slow, or just right?

If extrordinary things are happening to the characters at an alarming rate, then why shouldn't they be 20th level teenagers? I see this as a problem when the campaign covers the careers of "typical" adventurers. If all your PCs are doing is looting dungeons, then maybe they shouldn't be...
