Wizards in 4E have been 'neutered' argument...

Except that undeads have 0 con. They have terrible fort saves and are disintegrate bait.

Wizards in 4E have been 'neutered' argument...

Item creation before 3e was hard. The example of making a wand in the 2e DMG was an adventure in itself.

    That sounds pretty awesome.

Blah, Gandalf should've just mass teleported everyone into Mount Doom.

Wizards in 4E have been 'neutered' argument...

Wow, one night of sleep and this thread grew by 2 pages. Before 3e, a lot of spells had negative effects. Haste ages everyone by a year. Polymorph et al all requires system shock rolls. Heck, old school fireball and lightning bolt were dangerous to use in confined spaces. I think if WotC...

Wizards in 4E have been 'neutered' argument...

Flavour this, flavour that...how many spells did Gandalf cast in LotR? Didn't someone calculated that he was pretty much a lv 5 wizard using 3e rules? The whole appeal to literature/mythology argument that wizards should be all powerful reality warpers is flawed. Wizards in stories are only...

    Wherefore "mini-less" D&D assumptions?

    I think he's being sarcastic.

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

I don't think it's necessary that players don't want dark and gritty and loves happy funland. What players want is for their actions to make a difference to the world. What they want is for their characters to matter. I don't think any PC would object to starting a game in grimdark deathland...

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

Perhaps we should define what we mean by "dark and gritty". To some, it having means a deadly combat system. To others, it means having a forlorn and hopeless atmosphere or an absence of clear moral lines. Some sees it as having PCs that are no more special than NPCs while others see it as...

Answering Questions about Draconomicon: Metallic Dragons (was: Primal Power Preview)

Maybe "Orium" (or at least the name) is inspired by Orichalcum?

I use hair ties with different color representing different things and hang them on the minis. It felt kinda weird for a dude with really short hair to buy a bunch of colored hair ties from the dollar store. :D

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

I totally agree. Retraining mechanic is one of the best thing to have been included as part of the levelling structure. It alleviates the need to perfectly plan out your character lv 1 to 30 and gives a lot more room to experiment. Very newbie friendly too.

Which one do you prefer your character suffer? Death vs Rust Monster vs Level Drain

Depends on the rules under which one can bring in a new char to replace the dead one. But I think I'd prefer to be level drained.

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

During the 2e era, I learned DMing from a splat book called "Campaign Sourcebook and Catacombs Guide". My favourite 2e book by far.

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

Monster creation in 3e is process oriented (much like building a PC). You start at your starting point and follow a set of directions (you derive your monster stats by adding hit dice, classes, feats etc.). You may arrive at your intended destination (your intended monster difficulty) or you...

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

I've heard that story too but it was in my stats class where it was used as an example of a wrong conclusion that was reached due to a flawed methodology. The scientists didn't throw cats off a building (coz that would be inhumane and illegal). They looked at survival data from fallen cats that...

Why Changes were made in 4e

I very much agree with this. People keep comparing 4e to WoW, but it's actually much closer to Japanese tactical RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea. The only reason people compare 4e to WoW is because there's probably like 1000 WoW player for every JTRPG player.

Why Changes were made in 4e

As for Vancian magic being hard to port to a computer game, Final Fantasy I and III both used a version of the Vancian system. (they're more like the 3e sorcerers really...)
