    D&D 3.x CleverNickName's 3.5E Multiclassing fix

Thirded. I can't think of a multiclass combination that is more powerful than a "pure" spellcaster. Requiring in-game development and justification is a good thing. Occasional quests are fine too, though they could get repetitive if they're needed every time a character multiclasses. But I don't...

    Eliminating Eastern Flavor From D&D?

You’re using the etymology of “divine”, an English word used to define an in-game construct, to prove said construct has Asian origins. 1- Some translations of the game will use different words to define the exact same concept. 2- Most English constructs will contain words that ultimately come...

    Eliminating Eastern Flavor From D&D?

The easiest way would be to remove the monk and the monsters you or your players would associate with Asia. You may want to do some research before including a monster, but assuming it's a fantasy world, historical or cultural accuracy aren't that relevant. Flavour is subjective. I think...

    Faeries teleport?

Replacing logical default explanations with something that better fits my campaing/tastes, I like. Having to come up with far fetched explanations for mechanics that weren't meant to have one in the first place, I don't.

    Faeries teleport?

I know what 4e designers idea was. That doesn't mean I have to like it. Also, I said "inspired by", not "model". As in "this is a cool fantasy trope/ how it works in life/fiction. How could we implement that in a simple, balanced manner?" instead of "this is a cool, balanced mechanic, how could...

Hit Points & Healing Surges Finally Explained!

Note this is not a house rule, just how I would have done 4e. I'm not familiar with palladium either. My idea looks similar thematically, only simpler. Mechanically it's really closer to dnd hit points. Maybe it doesn't. This particular archetype is on par with armored warriors thanks to his...

Hit Points & Healing Surges Finally Explained!

Except when it's morale (warlord "healing" powers)

Hit Points & Healing Surges Finally Explained!

I don’t think WFRP armor is that bad, or the 3.5 UA variant (of course, the math could use some work as the system wasn’t designed to support it from the start) What I was suggesting is a bit different, though. "Armor points" would actually replace the extra hit points (from class and level)...

    Faeries teleport?

By getting in more easily I don't mean voluntarily (were're talking about the warlock attack here.) The point is that you generally end there against your will and escaping it, if possible at all, takes more effort. Dante's Inferno and dnd's Hells are depicted as a pit for a reason...

Hit Points & Healing Surges Finally Explained!

Same here. My problem with abstract hps is that no matter what you call them, there are already other mechanics (saves mostly) that represent skills, near misses, morale and such. So to me they're not only abstract to the point of not representing anything, they're also thematically redundant...

The end of all edition wars?

I was going to post something along the lines of what El Mahdi said. I'm not judging or anything, whatever works for you. But I find your reasoning a bit odd. Does your enjoyment of a game depend that much on forum discussions?

    Faeries teleport?

I find that awfully restrictive, story-wise, especially the feywild part. As for the hells, the “powers that be” assumption may work for some campaigns, but I would have thought getting in would be easier than getting out. Being cast out of Heaven, I can see but I would have thought Hell would...

    Faeries teleport?

That doesn't explain why you can't just leave your opponent on the other side when the portal closes. Or why you can't stay in the feywild. Sometimes being trapped there may be a better option than teleporting a few squares.

    Faeries teleport?

Of course he's fay. Just ask his "Goodfellow" Robin.

    Faeries teleport?

This is how I see it too. This + live in another world = teleportation. What I do find odd is eladrin being somehow more strongly associated with the feywild than elves. Thematically, "wood elves" would seem to fit better with the wilderness, satyrs and the new dryad than "froofy magical elves"...

The Nature of Change (or, Understanding Edition Wars)

I knew this thread had potential. Granted, it took the involvement of a wotc marketer to really take off but it did deliver… edition bashing, indignation, coloured text, coke metaphors, and major drifts! The thing is, I believe this model is accurate, for the most part. At any rate, irrational...

D&D 4E If you had to choose; end of 4e OR 4.5e?

I don’t think you could take away such core gamist elements as the power system and call that 4.5. And I believe someone from wotc said there wouldn’t be a 4.5. (then again, they said they weren’t working on 4e two years ago. And maybe that person will have been let go by then) I’m sure...

Love the Game vs. Hate the Greed?

That's an easy one for me because I haven't bought anything 4e. And I don't want to be too old when 5e comes out. And I'd take it as wotc finally seeing the error of their ways. "sorry... this is what we should have done..."

The Nature of Change (or, Understanding Edition Wars)

When I read the OP my first thought was "hmmm, recent account… troll!!!" Now I’m sure it wasn’t Truename’s intention  but if it were it would have a lot of potential. People involved in a debate just love being told "your arguments are irrelevant, you’re just being irrational and...
