    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

The only thing that riles up my inner pedant is the idea that some weapons use STR, while others use DEX... realistically, any fighting is a combination of both. A professional fighter would be both dexterous enough to hit their opponent, and strong enough to make that blow sting. Would it be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player stronghold

I really like this one. You could also work in some intrigue type quests, with other npc's trying to influence the young heir for their own nefarious purposes. Technically, you're all on the same side, but you have a funny feeling that the treasurer or the castle's priest are corrupting the heir...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5th Edition Will Fail

Okay. If it fails, I'll likely get a couple years of fun out of it before it does. Then I'll try the new edition. If it doesn't, I guess I'll keep playing this one.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D online - one PC cant make next session. What to do

    1) Have the character absent for some story-related reason. 2) Ghost the character along, and allow him/her to jump in when completely necessary. 3) run a one-shot on your usual night with whoever wants to show up. Our group does this every now and again, lets people try out a new character...

D&D 5E (2014) Choosing between ASI and Feats; how important is a maxed stat?

'I know the math makes ASI look better, but the feat will probably be more FUN.' - Paraxis Paraphrased for general wisdom. I've found it much more fun to build my fighter with feats and class abilities than to simply max out ST and Con. Mathematically he could be better, but my Heavy Armour...

    D&D 5E (2014) April 1st Encounters

Send your party to fight an evil Master Illusionist in his castle. Watch as they overanalyze every object in every room, trying to find out which are illusions. (none) Send them up against the Great Illusionist, who appears to be a brutal fighter in black plate mail, armed with a greatsword...

D&D 5E (2014) Level Up! DING, fries are done!

Level up after hitting a milestone, announced at the end of the session so people can do the paperwork at home. Fluff wise, it's nice if it's done during some sort of downtime period (traveling back to Wherever, waiting for an audience with the King, etc) but that's a secondary concern.

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of adventures would you rather see for 5th edition?

Lots of short, one-off adventures or short adventure paths. I like the AP's, but sometimes a group just wants something to last a few quick sessions. A friend of mine sent me a few of those adventurer league modules, and they look nice; quick, fun, interesting... real "in case of nerdy friends...

D&D 5E (2014) Basic DM encounter building tips

Thanks for the post. I like some of the ideas, especially the ones about intelligent humanoids fighting intelligently. I;ve always thought that goblins would gravitate towards hit-and-run or swarming tactics. Maybe have a handful of gobs that rush in with nets (or mancatchers!) while goblin...

D&D 5E (2014) Having another wizard in the group...does it suck?

My opinions; 1) Group size; final decision should be shared by the DM and whoever the host is, but a good DM/Host would take the other players feelings into account. 2) Multiple characters playing the same classes; Go for it. I think that any party that goes outside the standard set up is just...

D&D 5E (2014) Any reason not to let PCs add Proficiency to all Saves?

Fluff wise, it doesn't make sense. A fighter is more proficient at con saves than a wizard because a fighter has lead a physically demanding life that has inured him to tough conditions, whereas the Wizard likely hasn't. On the other hand, the Wizard has experience in buckling down and enforcing...

    D&D 5E (2014) How I'm Managing Inspiration

MY group has a problem with forgetting that we've been awarded inspiration in the first place, so I think this is a pretty good idea. I mean, I'M likely still going to forget about the bright orange, apple-sized D20 right in front of my face, but my brain is broken. It should work out fine for...

Once a week for about 4 hours at a time.

New Cooperative D&D Video Game Allows a DM To Run The Adventure

I'd honestly like this to be as close to the gameplay of Baldurs Gate II as possible. Looks really great.

D&D 5E (2014) Help Action? Most underrated rule?

How exactly does the Help action work in melee combat? I mean, can picture Helping someone climb a statue (your barb gives them a shove as they scramble up) or Helping someone heal a comrade (Your bard hands the cleric any equipment she needs, etc.).... but how does that translate to Helping...

D&D 5E (2014) Kickstart Dragon Magazine or any other rpg type magazine?

I would happily pay for a subscription to a Dragon-ish magazine; whether that manifests as a physical copy, or as some sort of e-mailed or downloaded pdf, I don't really mind. But I want one. If Kickstarter is the way to go, I would participate happily. There, that is one data point for you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master

I agree with this here. A character who dedicated his life to fighting, specialized in using the biggest and most damaging weapons possible, and frequently forgoes a lot of finesse in order to hit as hard as he possibly can, IS going to do a lot of damage. A bat-wielding Sammy Sosa probably...

D&D 5E (2014) Is every Official Adventure Going to be about Saving the World?

I don't think there's any way to run a level 1-20 adventure path without 'saving the world' coming in to play somewhere, but I agree that I'd like to see more low-level, local campaigns. (how about you turn a city-state around? Clean up crime, defend borders, defeat internal traitors, etc.) I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Forced movement and obstacles

I like the 1d6 per 15' rule. Hurtling through the air toward a stone wall should do something. In a similar vein, let's say a character was grappling an enemy next to a wall, table, etc. and decides to slam the enemies head into the object. Does that count as an improvised weapon or an un-armed...
