Why don't you buy non-WoTC stuff?

I'm with those who say that art is a big factor. I own a lot of non-WOTC d20 product but I might own a lot more if it wasn't for the crap that passes as cover and interior art in them. Is this shallow? Maybe, but presentation is important and its just as important for me to have visual cues for...

Icewind Dale 2 out in stores today!

I'm quite excited, especially after the drab borefest that Neverwinter Nights turned out to be. I admit to never finishing the original IWD because of its focus on combat as opposed to role playing and adventure (like BG2) but it sounds like IWD2 will be much more diverse and fun than its...

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

So what it sems like is that some people want the people's perspective (like Humanophile) where as others would like the absolute truth (like Khorod.) Iiiinteresting. No wonder there are so many variances among the products out there - its really hard to decide whats best. :)

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

Some really interesting results here... quite surprising. For the people who like seperate supplements, how would you feel about a sourcebook that used icons to indicate which sections were player friendly and which were GM friendly? Would that be useful or would they be ignored? Seems like...

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

Thanks for the opinons folks, but we're diverging here. I probably wasn't specific enough in my original post. The whole truth vs partial truth reference is not specifically tied to any metaplot, or anything that the players need to know. Its all about ancient history, and certain origins of...

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

Disclaimer: I don't intend this as an insult at all. :) But this poll is for those that buy a campaign setting because they actually want to use that campaign setting and the information provided therein. It is not directed at nor does it apply to people that use homebrew settings. Cheers.

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

But how about having both? I still think that the DM should know all there is to know while the players should be enjoying the rumors, heresay and whathaveyou. Why neuter the DM?

The whole truth or partial info. What do you prefer?

After buying numerous campaign settings released by different publishers, I've noticed a divergence in the history sections of those settings. Whereas some publishers present the history of a region/world as a collection of myths, mysteries, and loose truths, others present a concise and detail...

Religion-heavy, low-magic campaign settings.. balancing it out

Thanks for the replies so far. Keep it coming. With all the talk of low-magic campaign settings of late, I'm sure there are a lot of people with 2 cents to give.

Religion-heavy, low-magic campaign settings.. balancing it out

Scenario: Arcane magic is a fairly new discovery but religion has played a part in history for thousands of years, with clerics and divine magic running amok for almost as long. Mechanics impact: reduced arcane spell lists, emphasis on components, extra wizard restrictions, etc. The specifics...

    Battle mage prestige class anyone?

He will be trained in the use of more weapons but as a backup more than anything else. I see him as 1/3 weapon use, 2/3 magic use. I'll probably go with the assassin BAB. And as far as armor proficiency, its going to have to start at a much higher point, or give an outright proficiency with...

    Battle mage prestige class anyone?

Thanks very much, I'll check it out. As far as the war wizard goes, it sounds like they're different. The battle mage I have envisioned is first and foremost a combatant but his style varies. His expertise outside of combat-focused magic is limited. I like to build customisability wherever I...

    Battle mage prestige class anyone?

I haven't seen the spellsword no. In terms of what I'm going for, here's some ideas I have so far that have yet to be formalized. Limited spell progression - only advances every second level. Combat spell focus - can choose one of several "paths" in which to focus. Right now I have these as...

    Battle mage prestige class anyone?

I'm interested to see what people have cooked up for armor-wearing, combat-focused battle mage type prestige classes. Thanks very much. Yuval (still hoping to see a search function some day...)

Cool, thanks. So what are the prestige classes like? Whats your favorite monster and why?

Where did all the specialty priests go?

I don't think prestige classes make sense in this context. When an individual is trained as a cleric, they are indoctrinated in all of the specific teachings of the church from day one. In fact, they are probably more different in the early years from their counterparts in other churches than...

New Weapon: Please test and balance out!

I wouldn't have stat requirements for it. Those are taken into consideration by the weight of the weapon. Just make it very heavy and an exotic weapon and it should take care of makingit a hard weapon to properly master.
