Descent into Avernus has same quality of CoS or ToA.
Otherwise, retrocompatibility can help! You can use 5e with old edition adventures adjusted on the fly!
Can I suggest Age of Worms, Savage Tide, or old BECMI modules, such as B2, B5, B10, X1, X4, X5, X10, CM1, CM2, CM3?
I didn't study the subject, but some aspects of the game (for example the idea of soul and afterlife) seem drawn from a generic Neoplatonic/Hermetic tradition, yes.
For example, the propter names of fiends are drawn from actual daemonologies from the Hermetic tradition (warlocks and witches of...
I'm a huge fan of 2e art: Larry Elmore, Clyde Caldwell, Brom, Tony DiTerlizzi, Jeff Easley are true masters.
That said, the 5e art in PHB, DMG, MM, CoS, ToA, DiA, GGtR is extraordinary both in quality and quantity, this is a new Golen Age indeed.
1) Empire Strikes Back
2) Return of the Jedi
3) A New Hope
4) Attack of the Clones
5) Revenge of the Sith
6) Rogue One
7) The Last Jedi
8) The Force Awakens
9) The Phantom Menace
LMoP could be the best of any edition: solid adventure, great production values, real introduction to the game.
Keep on the Borderlands was iconic, but really an hackfest - "enter the dungeon and slaughter all the humanoids and their families".
The Sunless Citadel was better, but was not...
Interesting poll, because I DM with themes that I considered "acceptable" (in my group we are adults). Murder and rape are accepted, paedophilia is not.
I'll explain the classes that need improvement:
Barbarian is very good, but needs more attack power. It is disappointing that the Fighter is best at Dmg and Barbarian is best at tanking.
Druid: good overall, but (Moon) spikes at LVL 2, 20 and 20. Uneven.
Monk, Ranger, Sorcerer are subpar...
Besides, you can choose the most appropriate Legendary Action of the dragon. You could choose Tail Attack three times; or begin with the wings (2 actions) and then the tail, or a perception check...
If possible, the dragon breathes the first round, so he can begin to recharge.
Tactically, a...
Yes, but I wanted a vision of the other ones.
After a day, with 39 voters, the HIGH TIER is:
CoS and LMoP gain the most love with 22/24;
Then comes ToA at 17. I'm satisfied of the consensus as an exceptional adventure;
TotYP is the runner-up (15); people seem to love this classics anthology...
I love Top 10s and was just curius to learn the preferred published 5e adventures of other forum users.
Mine are Descent into Avernus (best Planescape adventure ever), Tomb of Annihilation (loved both the jungle sandbox exploration and the final Tomb), Curse of Strahd (better then the original...
Maybe you are right.
But IMO, for WotC to support a BIG setting without producing any adventures, and not letting enough time for fans to experiment with it, would be a bad move. IMO, a BIG setting every two years is a good ratio.
My expectations:
1 & 2) Two new hardcover adventures, one in the Forgotten Realms, the other in Eberron
3) A collection of old modules, similar to Ghosts of Saltmarsh
4) Another hardcover, something new (not a setting, it's too early after Eberron, and not a monster or options book; maybe the...
