Do you allow fighters in your campaign?

Fair enough. I can understand the point -- likewise, when I look at the current incarnations of the Ranger and Paladin, I have to ask myself why they aren't prestige classes. I guess the major reason for much of this was the "sacred cow" argument -- the same reason we're stuck with hit points...

    Claws of the Vampire Broken?

Re: Re: Claws of the Vampire Broken? Agreed. In my RTTOEE campaign, the Dwarf Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Rogue 2 normally does 2d6+5 (2d6 +8 when raging). With a Bull's Strength he approaches that level of damage, and he's only 6th level. And Bruce Cordell has stated on Monte Cook's boards that...

Do you allow fighters in your campaign?

Illusionist? Actually, KDLadage, I did miss the illusionist in both 2e and 3e. The specialist mages do not come class to simulating the 1e class -- I liked the limited but diverse spell selection that class had. As much as I would not want to see D&D have the insane number of classes of...

The coolest thing about the Ranger is....

what about "other"? You left out "other" as a choice. I know I play 3e rangers because Drizz't D'urden is my favorite fantasy character, and I want to play clones of him every chance I get :)

Do you allow fighters in your campaign?

I could see reducing everything to 4 classes -- but in that case, why bother with classes at all? Convert d20 to a skill-based system. Or, if you still want "levels" and "class abitilities", use something similar to the "create a class" rules in the 2e DMG. I tried this once -- then I realized...

    Wild Shape and Druid familiarity

Personally, I feel that Wildshape is limited enough (animals only, size restricted by Druid level) without adding the "familiarity" requirement. While in theory this restriction isn't too bad, in practice, I fear, it would nerf Wildshape -- the DM can all too easily limit what animals the druid...

Broken spells?: entangle and briar web (DotF)

I don't really understand the concern with Entangle. In my experience, players are rarely about to use this spell effectively because they risk catching the party within the effect. Only under certain conditions (ambush, etc.) has it worked well.

    Fly vs Polymorph Self

polymorph errata The most current version of polymorph self is in the psionics handbook errata at http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/PsionicsHBErrata.pdf There are no penalties any longer to attacks rolls, etc. By the way, if you want a different take on Polymorph, check out my revision in...

    Weird necromancer

In 2nd ed, I played an anatomist-necromancer as a sort of alchemist/scientist, searching for ways to better life (healing, life-extension, etc.) without the need for gods and clerical magic. He was deeply suspicious of deities (with good reason, in that campaign) and thought that his research...

PALADINS, how do your players play them ?

I'm fairly strict as a DM. When a player confuses "Lawful Good" with "Lawful Arrogant", I tell him that his alignment is drifting toward Lawful Neutral and that he risks losing his paladinhood. Too me, that sort of self-righteousness is contrary to the nature of the paladin.

    Dragon Disciple PrC

As best as I can tell, the Sage has made conflicting rulings in two different emails (posted on various messageboards). In the first, he states that the dragon disciple gains all the effects of size change as described in the Monster Manual. In the other email, he says that only the changes...

    Dragon Disciple PrC

But he has abysmal spell ability and mediocre combat ability. I have a Dragon Disciple PC in my current campaign and, while I absolutely love her character concept and background, I have to say that it's a very weak character. Now, she could have consciously tried to maximize the character --...

    Dragon Disciple PrC

All nice abilities, to be sure ... but not very useful for a sorceror. Quite effective, on the other hand, for a fighter- or barbarian-sorceror.

    Dragon Disciple PrC

Unfortunately, unless the PrC description specifically says they stack (or that the class gives "+1 caster level"), then they don't --and I can't find anywhere in the Dragon Disciple description that suggests that spell ability increases beyond the "bonus spells" gained. Another reason why...

How good is the Book of Eldritch Magic?

BEM Actually, I thought the PrCs in the Book of Eldritch Might were, in general, both more interesting and better balanced than those in Tome and Blood. Of course, that's IMHO.... Out of curiosity, what spells did you find too powerful? I haven't had a problem with any of them although, I...

    Hurrah! Wildshape repaired

Check out the revisions/clarifications to Wildshape in the Master of the Wild sneak preview at http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20020202ex After the nerfing Wildshape suffered under the innumerable polymorph revisions, I am amazed that WOTC interepreted Wildshape so favorably --...

How would you balance sorcerers if wizards didn't need to pay for scribing spells?

Re: Re: How would you balance sorcerers if wizards didn't need to pay for scribing spells? I respectfully disagree. IMHO, one of the primary balancing factors between the two classes is that wizards suffer a near-constant financial drain because of spell costs. While I don't think doing away...
