    AC per level

Hit points representing "fatigue" or "luck" sounds nice in theory, but that doesn't reflect the reality of the game. Otherwise, why do they recover so slowly? Should it really take days to rest to recover one's ability to dodge blows? That's neither realistic nor cinematic. Likewise, why are...

Why are Victorian and Western Games incompatible?

I find the two genres completely compatible. Both are about "high adventure"....

"Kill Bill" to pull a Matrix Sequel Split

I'm very excited about this film but I fear that splitting it in two will "kill" it at the box office. It's a terrible idea...

    [3.5] Converting Woes...? Ha!

The process of conversion isn't difficult, I think -- it's more that some characters will simply change too much, even if the changes make them "superior." For example, there's no doubt in my mind that the revised Druid is FAR more powerful than the 3.0 one; I will retire my Druid character...

[3.5] TALON: What are you guys going to do?

Oddly enough, Diamond Comics (a major distributor for FLGSs) claims that WOTC told them the street date is July 30th, so they won't release the new books until then :(

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

To the best of my knowledge, this isn't some new "strategem" on the part of WOTC. They've ALWAYS marketed 3e as needing miniatures -- or at least they have to gaming stores. Personally, I've used miniatures but certainly don't feel that they're necessary for the game. And sometimes they can...

    Any Decent Fantasy Novels?

Several good authors have already been recommended, but I don't think anyone has mentioned David Drake. Although mostly known for "military sci-fi" he is a very talented author. His foray into fantasy -- the Lord of the Isles series -- is very well-written, with an interesting grounding in...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Dragon Disciple in 3.5? Pleaaaase?

IMC I dropped the "enlargement" feature and gave +1 spellcasting level at every odd level. The PC in my game in now 16th level (10th DD, 6th Sor) and has been fairly well-balanced. The change made the class useful -- still weaker than most FR spellcasting PrCs, but very playable...

Resistance is futile... you will upgrade to 3.5!

When my current campaign ends (in the next couple months), I plan on starting an AU game. 3.5e looks like a mixed bag -- for most of the "things that needed to be fixed," I greatly prefer my house rules over the design team's changes....

    Nerfed Wildshape?

I have to admit that it looks like the 3.5 Druid will be a far more powerful combatant than the 3.0 Druid. Unfortunately, that won't matter too much to me as I plan on retiring my Druid immediately unless I can convince my DM to house-rule some of these changes. As someone posted above, it's...

    3.5 at distibutors on monday!

As a counterpoint, my FLGS owner said that WoTC no longer gives "hard" street dates because they got tired of smaller gaming stores complaining about some of the larger retail chains getting WoTC products days or even weeks before the "official street date"....

A New Way to Look at Classes

D20 Moderns approach is ok -- incredibly generic base classes with advanced classes you can take rather early (4th level, right?). I don't know that the overhaul of D&D classes required to fit such a system would be worth it. The 4 "core" D&D classes are fairly specific, not generic... If...

skills: so when your INT goes up...?

On the other hand, I have a problem with Intelligence being treated differently from every other stat. With Str, Dex, Con, Wis, and Cha, you gain ALL the benefits when you raise them. With Int, you lose out on one of the best benefits -- more skill points. In my current game (running 2 years...

    Rate The Hulk

X-2 was a sequel to a popular film, so many people are at least somewhat familiar with the franchise. Hulk hasn't been on-screen since the charming but mediocre series of the 70s. I'd guess that X-men have the "larger" audience....

Who is houseruling 3.5 changes before they try them?

I plan on using AU, perhaps with a blend of 3.0 and my own houserules.

who decides whether to go 3.5?

I guess I'm in the opposite situation from most DMs (at least those who are posting here). I have absolutely NO interest in "upgrading." Originally I was quite excited, but I don't really care for many of the changes I've seen -- I prefer my own house rules. So regardless of my player's...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Druid (again)

Summary of Urban Arcana rules for the Wildlord: You get your animal companion at 2nd level; it has "link" and "share spells." Link gives you a bonus to Handle Animal rolls with your companion. At 3rd level (and every 3 levels thereafter), your companion gets +2 Hit Dice, +2 natural armor, and...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Druid (again)

Yes, but in Urban Arcana you don't get an Animal Companion until 2nd level. So presumably the chart effects would be moved down one level for Druids (and up 3 for Rangers).

    save or die 3.5

Actually,ALL the primary spellcasters can do that -- Clerics have Slay Living, Destruction, Harm, etc. Druids get Finger of Death. Sorcerors have access to the same spells as Wizards.
