    Super Powers in Fantasy RPGing

I also want to put in a good word for 4CtF. First, I have to say that I prefer Mutants and Masterminds for a "standard" superhero game; it drops the parts of the D20 rules set that I personally find incompatible with superhero gaming -- AC, hit points, classes, levels, etc. What I find so...

Replacing the druid's animal companion ability with the Earth Domain: balanced?

I think it's a very reasonable exchange and would easily allow a player in my game to make that swap.

    [non d20] Buffy RPG

Actually, I'd argue that the "combat aspect" is where D20 modern really can't simulate tv-action like Buffy. The skill, feat & talent systems could do passably well, but hit Points & AC just do not simulate high action very well. Some variation of vitality/wound points might work....

Are Summon Monster Spells Underpowered(and how would you fix it?)

I've been using 1 min/level duration for Summon Monster spells in my campaign for over a year with no problems. It makes almost no difference in combat, but allows the spells to be used in more flexible,non-combat ways.

3.5 vs. Arcana Unearthed: Which One are You More Excited About?

I guess I'm the exact opposite. I look at the previews for 3.5 and think that, yes, WOTC has recognized many of the problems with 3E -- unfortunately, I don't really care for the way they're trying to "fix" most of them. I much prefer my own revisions. Likewise, as a GM, I'm tired of having to...

    The Wish Clause(TM)

From my gaming experience, I've learned to simply politely refuse any time a gamemaster offers one of my characters a wish. 90% of the time, the GM is "gunning" for the player. It's impossible to word a wish so that the GM can't twist it. And, as someone mentioned above, what's considered...

how does the druid not stink?

Unfortunately, you can't use Thousand Faces when Wildshaped. From the Wild Shape description:

how does the druid not stink?

The druid is a wonderful class. It, unlike the Cleric, has alot of "flavor" -- and it's greater restrictions encourage creativity, IMHO. On the other hand, the druid's effectiveness is VERY dependent on the DM's style of campaign (probably moreso than any other class except perhaps the Bard)...

    Hawaii(INSANELY OT)

Some other things to consider on Oahu that haven't been mentioned: * Manoa Falls is a relatively easy hike to a very nice waterfall (Manoa Valley, N of the university) * also try the Aihualama Trail if possible -- it starts right before the falls and has a great view of Manoa Valley...

    No magic!

One problem is that without magic, characters are simply not capable of doing things that fit the genre -- whether you're talking about Tolkien, Arthurian myths, Conan, or the Three Mustkateers. Issues: (1) Problem: Combat in D&D assumes a fair amount of magic. Armor Class is totally...

What is your favorite prestige class? (Added results so far)

The one that's balanced, interesting, and playable. There's got to be at least one somewhere.... Don't take me TOO seriously. I know there's usually one or two that's actually ok in any given WOTC product. I particularly liked the Eldritch Master -- it's a difficult class to play, as you need...

    Possession: how evil is this?

Well, speaking from a strictly "standard DnD", by-the-book approach, Magic Jar is NOT evil as it does not have an evil descriptor -- not in the PHB nor in any of the errata or FAQs. However, I assumed that the question was how other GMs treated it in their games, since the "official" ruling is...

    Possession: how evil is this?

You think Magic Jar might be evil? How about Dominate? Suggestion? Charm Person? All of these strip free will from their target -- arguably very evil. Thus all these powers are much more feared in my game than Animate Dead....

does anyone think sunder is too easy?

I have to agree with Hong. One of the problems (or "features") of D&D is that hit points represent, in part, the ability to avoid being hit. That's why AC is almost completely independent of a character's combat skill or level. Yet special maneuvers such as Sunder totally bypass that mechanic. I...

Whats the ECL of an Awakened Dog for a PC?

Actually, I agree with your assessment. Savage Species is FAR more useful as a DM tool. I like the idea of monster class levels but, as a DM, I plan to do exactly what the authors forbid: multiclassing before maxing out the monster class. I think this makes a useful way to create half-breeds and...
