WotC's Head to head monster match! Vote for your favorite!

Meepo! And I'm glad the Stone Giant won. Troll FB is cool, but tossing _sanctified rocks from a church_ is just AWESOME. "Arr! Gnash! Froth!" "SMITE!"

What are good spells for a Sorc to "chain"?

I'm also going to have to go with chain Dispel Magic and chain GMW. Most of the offensive spells don't chain well, either do to the -4 secondary save (don't chain an enchantment!) or the fact that you just can't. On the other hand, chain can be a wonderful quick buffing utility metamagic. It's...

Why I refuse to support my FLGS

Close, but a little different. Case 1: Person goes into the store, looks through the stock, unsure whether they'll get something or not. They drink coffee, ask questions, and make a decision. Case 2: Person goes into the store knowing that they're not going to buy anything from the store; in...

Incorporeal creatures and the dreaded 15ft thick wall

The question is, why? Say that senses do not work inside a solid object. Why can't they just "close their eyes" and step across to the other side of the wall? How 'bout getting lost? There is something about stone and other dense substances that completely confuses an incoporeal creature's...

Keeper from fiend folio. LA seems off?

Dunno about the ECL, but I can help with the stats. Monsters have three stats at 10 and three at 11 (so half odd and half even). Subtract 10 from the even stats and 11 from the odds to get the stat adjustments. Remember that it would get a bonus for each 4HD as well.

Age of Worms vs. Shackled City

I've been impressed with the level of conversions available for Eberron. Keith posted several notes (and I'm waiting for his notes on the second adventure), and there are a lot of people on the Paizo boards who have been doing an in-depth analysis and conversion. I've been more impressed with...

Help a DM engage the players in his campaigns arc.

They may just be casual players. You hear over and over again that it's better to show than tell. That's true when writing a novel, but mainly because a) a reader is by definition paying attention to you and b) they can always go back and reread a chapter. With D&D it's harder. Some people will...

Have you been disillusioned by the latest WotC books?

I certainly haven't been disappointed, but my buying is limited. DMGII: While everything in there I could have come up with, having it presented to me meant I could get on with running a game. I'm already using the apprenticeship rules, and plan to use most of the rest. Yummy. Five Nations: A...

    What Apple Should I Get?

Nah. Get a mac mini (or an imac) and a windows gaming machine. Note that the windows machine starts spending more and more time turned off. Become an addict. Like me. Join ussss.... join us nowwwwww....

I thought it was a "Star Wars Cantina" parody.... <gd&r>

[CA] Vitriolic Sphere - no save?

My wife's sorcerer loves this spell. Of course, we were in an anti-vampire one-shot at the time. Fortitude: no effect. Will: it's a mind affecting, no effect. Reflex: guess what! two leves of rogue and a huge dex, evasion, no effect. Ranged touch: huge dex, no effect. Vitriolic Sphere. For...

Why I refuse to support my FLGS

It is completely unethical. You're using false pretenses to waste someone's time. Even if you come in and say "no, I don't need help", you're inflicting wear on materials and taking up space. I love the Shopkeeper's Law. It's a great example of the sorts of things that a bunch of educated...

    Gestalt Poser: Double benefits?

I'd agree. Also, they suggest that in a Gestalt game you remove the various "multiclass" PrCs (Eldritch, Arcane Tricker, ...) because they overlap with Gestalt and are thus unnecessary. Though you'd still have Wizard/Archmage or something like that.

Is this world big enough for the both of them?

Yeah, it's a _lot_ of work. I've had very good results with people _hearing_ about "the other group", or seeing them in cameo (recognizable walking down the street, say) without having actual interactions. That's very cool, and means you don't have to keep things in sync nearly as well.

Knowledge (Local) - How Does Your Group Use and Define It

Yeah, it's definitely internal knowledge about an area. Gather Info is asking someone, and there are times you don't want people to know you've been asking; on the other hand, you can always ask someone else (G Info retry) but you know what you know (K(L) no retry). The question then becomes...

Knowledge (Local) - How Does Your Group Use and Define It

Yeah, they're getting pretty close, but different ways of getting the same thing. "Hey, I need to get to 4242 Foobar street" <rolls K(L)> , "Oh, right, it's off of Joe Avenue... I remember that" or.... <rolls Gather Info> and asks someone, gets "Go three blocks, take a left at the light"...

Knowledge (Local) - How Does Your Group Use and Define It

I think FR treats each area individually, which seems silly to me... now, not only are there a huge number of Knowledge skills, there's an equally huge number of K(local) skills... ack, the points! I've decided to run with it as K(L) is your capability to learn things about the area you're...

    Battlestar Galactica Returns! Who's excited!?

Argh... I hates my cable company! $15 a month, basic cable. Cool. $35 a month, expanded basic. Which includes sci-fi, but _not_ basic! You need BOTH, or fifty bucks a month!!! I HATES THEM! And I can't even get sci-fi "a la carte"... <sob>

    What Apple Should I Get?

You're going to be interested more in the video card than in the processor; processor is "as fast as you can afford", but the video cards are more limited by model. I don't know 'em offhand, but you should be able to find discussion on the 'net for the various ones. If you are primarily a gamer...

    Death due to stat loss.

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. And from what I remember of that mega-module, your son will only be the first. We had a *nice* GM, and there were ~6 character deaths. And we got lucky, and were overstrength, and... I think it sets a nice tone for the module. It's supposed to be creepy...
