A lot of things that were already mentioned... I'll also plug The Other Gaming Company's spell/condition/item cards. Those things are great quick references, and you can print them out yourself. We recently went to item cards for tracking expendables, and people have started getting addicted.

We played it pretty much that way. Activating was a free action, but you had to be aware of the triggering condition. If you saw the spellcaster, you could activate the Contingency, but if you were flat-footed you couldn't. Of course, then my mage got Foresight, and, well...

I always went with the simple "blink if attacked". Saved his butt a couple of times, too... Improved blink is better once you can get the levels for it.
