Zad/Wizardru's Story Hour (*final update 11/12*)

Yeah, that devil was rough. We went in through the secret door and cleaned up the whips but good, but then the devil showed up. Dropped the rogue in one full attack (bowrogue, and only one with decent ranged) and it went downhill from there. Ow ow ow ow ow.

New stat block format and Excel?

DMG2 and MM IV in particular. MM IV has some enhancements to the format (like breaking out armor). I'm pretty sure the new Completes use it for NPCs. Check out the MM IV preview on Wizards' site for an example.

Interrupting the BBEG to Start Combat

I'm with the "let the BBEG finish" group. When someone (either side) initiates combat, everyone rolls initiative and the highest one goes first. It doesn't matter who jumped first - the highest initiative saw them twitch and went first. There's also no surprise round, since everyone was aware...

Zad/Wizardru's Story Hour (*final update 11/12*)

I loved the fight against the guards. Of course, my character had just gotten Defenestrating Sphere (CompArcane), and there's _nothing_ like hucking fish-men down some steps. I'm with you on the secret door, though. I mean, really? Who does that? Good luck with the temple full of chanting...

Zad/Wizardru's Story Hour (*final update 11/12*)

I really, really, REALLY wasn't a fan of the hydra in this module. Or the dragon, for that matter. The hydra was just dumb. It was a big glass cannon. If you got near it unprepared, you died - that breath weapon is just stupid. Otherwise, you could kill it with hardly a scratch. Do you have a...

Where to get a CHEAP computer

Another vote for Freecycle or Craigslist. There might also be organizations around that are upgrading and getting rid of old machines; corporations would probably want money, but maybe educational/religious type places would have something extra. Dell is also an option if you can find one of...

    touch spells: holding the charge

Right. So one-handed weapons are fine, or thrown for that matter. But two-handers are (probably) right out. For more fun, check the Spell Compendium for Spell Flower. Low-level spell, allows you to keep a touch spell up and running. Also, Daggerspell Mage.

Another Official D&D Game Rule FAQ Update

The date says 11/23, that's last week. I thought there was already a thread discussing it, too.

Rules Q: Black Pudding vs. Magical Adamantine

And have you seen the elder black pudding? Daaaaaaamn.

Rules Q: Black Pudding vs. Magical Adamantine

Well, I am the GM, so it's my job to be evil. I find the discrepency odd. In a system that seems to move away from all-or-nothing to still have this... well, sucks to be the PCs. Hrm. Maybe I'll be nice and allow make whole to work after the fact. Takes it from a $$$$$-encounter to merely a...

Rules Q: Black Pudding vs. Magical Adamantine

Quick rules question for those that know more than I: A black pudding has two results of its attacks: 1) Immediately dissolve armor and clothing (Reflex avoids). The favor is returned to the attacker - hitting it with a weapon has the same Reflex-or-lose it. 2) Deal 21 points of damage to...

A cleric is essential for Age of Worms yes?

You don't need one, but without one it's going to be painful. Death Ward is almost a necessity for example. Also, Druids get many of the healing spells... but they don't get the "status removers" (Remove Curse, etc. etc.) that the clerics do. UMD and a bunch of wands? Nice thing is you don't...

    Leap Attack feat & Monsters?

Which would be good because otherwise you'd get 4x (100% more of 2x) with a two-handed weapon. No thanks. Side note: after all the scaling back of double-damage we saw in the 3.0->3.5 conversion, why do they let it back in? And a monster only gets 1:1 PA damage. Huh. Oops :)

Running a Dungeon Adventure Path. Which is the best?

I've played Shackled City, am running Age of Worms, and read Savage tide. They are very varied, and so you kind of want to pick based on your likes and the players'. That said, I'd go with either Age of Worms or Savage Tide. Shackled City started falling apart for us later on... a little too...

    Rules: readying vs SLA?

Could have sworn I posted this earlier... ah, well. A simple rules question: is there enough in an SLA for someone to ready to interrupt it? Reasons for: an SLA provokes an attack of opportunity. Reasons against: no components.

How do you picture the riding dog ?

Well, there's the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Forge-Raj-Whitehall-General-Book/dp/0671720376/sr=8-8/qid=1159665595/ref=sr_1_8/104-7507534-2395135?ie=UTF8&s=books Dogs bred as war mounts... pretty cool, really.

OOTS 354 is up... and I feel old now...

MAME, people, MAME. Seriously. Nostalgia on your computer. Now, on topic - serious roll. It's great. Though I notice that the Linear Guild wizard just isn't as powerful as the rest of the gang - Summon I and II? C'mon!

    Extra Dimensional Container Questions

It depends on the item. A Glove of Storing, fr'instance, explicitly says that an item is held in stasis, but that spell effects continue. A Bag of Holding/Handy Saversack/Quiver is just a "bigger on the inside" container.

    Question on tumbling movement

The second. So you're going along with your normal movement. Then you start tumbling, and this is done at half speed. When you're done tumbling, you go back to normal movement. The key is the "as part of normal movement", instead of (say) "instead of normal movement".
