    Racial Epithets

Just a side note, for those who care, the epithet 'digger' is about as offensive to many Native American cultures as a word can get, up there with 'redskins' and the like. Obviously a fantasy game doesn't have to be connected to reality in any way, but consider the reaction you'd have if...

"All Power Attack, All the Time?"

I think I was a little unclear when I said what I was looking for. You're right that the NWN Power Attack reduces the 'spreadsheet factor', but using it or not is still a spreadsheet decision - albeit a spreadsheet of much smaller size. I would prefer Power Attack to have a completely...

Alternate DR rules- no Golf bags!

Another way you could do it would be to say that DR stacks, but divide a monster's DR up into parts (round up the DR that is tougher to beat) based on its vulnerabilities. This would eliminate the problem (well, at least I perceive it as a problem) where a high enough enhancement bonus beats...

"All Power Attack, All the Time?"

At the risk of getting this thread moved to House Rules, does anyone have an alternate Power Attack mechanic, hopefully removing the calculator part of it, that they'd care to share? I love to 'go all out' (both as a player and as DM), and sometimes I love to 'conserve my strength'; I just...

    Turn Undead - alternate results?

I played on a Neverwinter Nights server that had an alternate version of turning that worked pretty well. Undead that were successfully turned got knocked back 5' and fell prone, and couldn't stand for one round. I think they also took something like 1 point of damage per cleric level of the...

Eberron - controlling lightning rail too easy?

Hi all. Does anyone else think that controlling the lightning rail is too easy for an unmarked character? The sidebar on p. 267 says that it just takes an opposed Charisma check, with the elemental generally having a modifier of +0. Also, if the check fails, all the elemental can do is stop...

    The Fighter Who Wouldn't Specialize...

How about something like this? Impromptu Technique Prerequisites: Who knows? Benefit: Once per day per character level, as a free action, you draw upon your understanding of combat principles, weaponry, and terrain to utilize an unexpected technique. Roll 1d10 and consult the table below; you...

Art of Magic July Preview: Return to Sender, Address Unknown

Perhaps the spell could create a positive energy backlash. "This spell works like death ward except that anyone using a death spell or effect on the recipient suffers a positive energy backlash. Undead creatures take 1d6/caster level damage from this backlash (Will half, max 20d6), while...

[Art of Magic]So the Wizard wants to cast cure spells...

Interesting, but a cure critical wounds is 4d8 + 7 = 25 HP on average for a 7th level character (when this spell becomes availible). A 7th level wiz has 4 + 6d4 + 7*CON = 18 + 6*CON mod... I still think the range of situations where this spell will be useful is extremely limited. The other...

    Primordial Shifter

I had an idea for a class somewhat similar, except that it would have a limited set of forms, perhaps learning 1 new form each level, with restrictions on what forms you can know based on form HD/special abilities vs character's HD. I definitely agree that the class needs its ability scores to...

[Art of Magic]So the Wizard wants to cast cure spells...

Honestly, I think it's weak. At 1 round/level, it's pretty much limited to in-combat usage... and in combat, for the same spell slot, I'd rather just heal the wizard myself with a cure critical wounds and let him get back to blowing stuff up. The concept is very cool, but I think the...

troy - ok movie, here are some feats

Like the thread title says, it's an OK movie. Don't get your hopes up. I mean, I found it to be worth the cost of admission, but then, I caught a free sneak preview on campus...

A few New Spells for critique

You're right, I should have put 33. Even so, 33 damage with no save and no energy resistance is much, much stronger than 35 damage with a Reflex save and possible damage resistance. You're correct that magic missile can do 25 points of damage, but it also does that damage to only one target...

A few New Spells for critique

Cone of force averages {4.5 * 6 + 8 =} 35 points of damage at 12th level... the same as fireball. I'd kick that up to 4th level, since Force damage is just so much better than fire damage, even if the area of effect is trickier to use.

PGtF - What happened to Cosmopolitan?

I agree with Scion. If the intent of the PrC is to have someone be X level of a class before they can join it (which is reasonable in some cases - for instance, a 5 level PrC could have powers that are utterly broken for an 8th level character, but are just fine for an 18th level character)...

    new feat: spell addition (metamagic)

Like I said before, we're talking past each other. And, like I said before, I still think that the top half of Spell Addition (cast two spells at once, for a slot of level equal to their sum plus one) is a fine feat. That's my opinion, and I've provided my justifications for it. However, the...

New Feats: Spell Power, Greater Spell Power(Revised,More Feats added)

Scorching Ray is only single target... but I concede the point. 3rd and 9th might be acceptable. Um, Energy Affinity only adds to your caster level. If you're going to tack on save DC boosts and additional spells known, then these feats are going to get ridiculous in a hurry.

CD-feat Practiced Spell Caster compared to my own creation

Yeah. That's supposed to be 1 MR/4 levels. Thanks. Well, the multi-classing isn't exactly 'free', since you are losing out on access to higher-level spells. I still can't really think of a case where 'caster level = character level' is game-breaking; can anyone think of one? After all, low...

    AD&D 2E 2E Combat Feats

Personally, I don't see +2 dodge bonus to AC as being too much for the one-handed weapon user, as long as the feat precludes the usage of a shield. Consider that the character could go to a store and buy a large shield for 7 gp, and be in a very similar position (not helpful against touch...

    new feat: spell addition (metamagic)

He could have traded fire shield and stoneskin for fireball and cone of cold, and still gotten displacement, blink, and mirror image. As for brokenness, I posit that the purpose of giving buffing spells a limited duration is to reward those who expend the time and energy necessary to know when...
