D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

Cheese? hmmmm Stat divergence is a thing... Remember if you only have to worry about 3 stats and 3 saves (3e and 4e) keeping those less divergent themselves is usually far easier and in 5e you have twice as many stats and twice as many saves to keep shored up. And what seems like far fewer...

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

My experience is that players do not even look at the math 90 percent of the time... (number pulled from thin air of course as I am not looking at the math )

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

When the game is made so that the d20 is more important than most all of the characters abilities and skills and choices that seems to happen a lot more. Bounded accuracy I have heard described as marketing fluff but to me it messed with skillful ability.

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

LOL this as an answer to a statement asking "Are your characters utterly clueless?" Say no more.

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

It think it was an ad-populum argument ... all those other people who complain about it must mean you are wrong or something I said things you are challenged by... this is mostly what stories are told about Why are you rolling and why are you treating them as challenges if they are easy...

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

Sorry guys you get better and the things you are challenged by and most of the things you need to roll the dice to overcome get better too .. seems a natural thing in stories... complaining about it seems very odd to me. And your worst is what zero and always will be? Seems like a huge gap to...

Elon Musk the spoiled rich kid who buys other peoples good stuff and takes credit for it and when he tries to actually run it ruins it .... yeah NOOOOOOO.

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

Thanks for taking the hyperbolics well.. sometimes moods are that way. Maybe there are actually dozens of spells but the game mechanics for each are just not that specific (ie you can set the fireball so its fire effects are adjacent and in game world that is two different spells (but two...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

I wish I could toss but the implications are fairly ingrained.... so little room for skill advancement so little attribute advancement you can probably do everything attribute check (skill) wise at 6th level you could do at 20th level its like you didnt get better at all except in combat...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

ok what experiments do you engage in and are they double blind :)d because you are misusing the term science. LOL no I can see the name ranger above one and fighter so that must simply mean my nimble bow using character must be called a Ranger not a scout nor just a light infantry ...it says on...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

You can go the opposite direction if there is a player who wants to be an X, I will see if I can manipulate my gameworld story to help enable that/ generally not too troublesome... or that character (and their supporting cast may be the only X-likes) . So new races done it many times, new...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

Are you sure they arent hovering over characters heads in glowing red letters? Somebody seems to demand this change... they "require" it because if the game isn't that way it is nonsensical inconsistency and they want it elaborated why every single time. With many paragraphs if possible to not...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

Every culture in the real world has distinct visions of how magic works and every philosopher seeks his own way I do not like the idea of one being exactly perfect instead of self limited. Breaking ones preconceived notions and bias to walk another's way is not a sit down and memorize this...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

The pretense was the pretense of a requirement to be real D&D or to make sense or some other implication that is being shoveled ... sheesh. It's a bad wrong fun war cry of "consistency" demanding detail levels of monsters and npcs that for most is not practical ... coming from those demanding...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

Nods rituals are the most authentic magic we have seen in D&D they are generally long term Strategic Resources (not so much tactical) which is why is why I liked the 4e ritual system it stepped outside of that box and being a great ritualist did not necessarily have anything to do with combat...

So the joy of saving the village is out and unacceptable? Why does it need to be tangible? Greed seems to be the only motive you consider valid. Have the shamans stick its not a "magic item" just a cheap tool ... have fun. Nobody said you cannot take it.
