D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

So what is your plan to let rogues destroy bad guys? How about monks? How about TWF Fighters, Barbarians, Paladins, Rangers, etc? How about trident users? How about handmade throwers? There are many others, but these would be the most common.

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

This. If martials need help then a more global manuever system or flat damage increases if necessary is the way to go. Boosting a few martial options is not. Ya, giving weapon specific options is hard to make work. For my game I made most of the weapon specific feats Inherent Weapon Properties...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

The ideas of 3.X and 4e where characters can only function with their one weapon is on the rise. It's unfortunate that many of the WotC 5e designers have left the building. I wish they were still here to stop Mearls' poor design.

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

Perhaps you missed it above: You can't try to fix a divide by granting a small subset of martial classes a much higher power than other martial options. This just creates a divide between martial options while doing little to address the versatility divide.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the 5E Fighter, episode 47 - extra combat style at 5th level?

5e did a great service in eliminating nearly all cases where builds focused on one specific weapon or fighting style. Some of those options remain: Fighting Styles and weapon specific feats like GWM or Sharpshooter. By having a martial character choose TWF, GWF, Archery, etc it's bringing back...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

If that's your position then make it clear from the beginning that martial options being competitive against one another is not a concern of yours. Because that's the choice you're making. That's much simpler than wrapping it other reasons. Plain and simply you either care that martial options...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

As I outlined above this feat isn't even balanced among users of this weapon type. It is far more valuable where advantage is readily available (Barbarian, OoV Paladin, BM Fighter). It'd be impossible to make balanced among those classes who can use big weapons. Beyond that it would be an...

Very eloquently said. This is exactly how I feel as well.

D&D 5E (2014) To make all class/race combinations viable: adding +1 ability bonus from class that you take at your 1st level

Alternatively you can alter races to give +1 to any ability score. So for example I rule that elves get +1 dex and +1 to any ability score (instead of +2 dex). Each subrace still gets +1 in their ability score (int, wis, or cha based on subrace). So a Wood Elf could be 1 dex, 1 wis, 1 str 2...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

GWF is a totally different feature that people argue over whether it's valuable or not (Mathematically it's half as powerful as other fighting styles - see Fighting Styles). Acronyms/Initialism make understanding difficult for those not fully knowledgeable on the jargon. It's important to get...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

Important clarifications: GWF, or Great Weapon Fighting, is the fighting style. GWM, or Great Weapon Master, is the feat. It's important to keep these two acronyms separate. Spellcasting power is at best tertiary to this discussion. There is a caster/martial divide, though it is much smaller...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cantrip house rule

A cantrip is doing ~25% of a martial character's DPR. An Evocation Wizard or a Dragon Sorcerer does ~35%. Eldritch Blast does much more (~84%), but that is very unique and purposeful for that class. Numbers based on DPR of Classes If people think that's too overpowered then they can make...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Soulknife is complete and ready for feedback with 2 archetypes: Soul Knight and Psychoporter. Also adjusted Time Regression wording to be a 7th level power on yourself or augment to a 9th level power for everyone and removed the exhaustion. Temporal Acceleration to last a flat 2 turns (so...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Soulknife has stalled. I'm not sure if it has enough flavor for a full class, but it feels like too much for an archetype. I'll see what comes of it. Cryptic (a Rogue archetype) is complete with the power list on the powers doc. Added disrupt pattern and kinetic legerdemain as new powers for...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the major thing that's disappointing about Sorcerers is the lack of sorcery point options?

Thanks! I'm glad you appreciate what I've created! To be fair most of undead is just repackaged from other WotC archetypes, but I think it turned out well. With regards to metamagic I think CapnZapp said it better than I can: That said each person has their own views and I'm not here to say...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the major thing that's disappointing about Sorcerers is the lack of sorcery point options?

I didn't make the site, I just use it. In regards to the amount of influence an archetype has: this is the first time I've read someone complain that a Sorcerer isn't generic enough. Typically it's the other way around. But the sorcerer, much like the Ranger, means different things to different...

The site is optimized for chrome. It'll look as expected using chrome. What are you seeking to express personality? Shadow sorcerer type tables? They could easily be added.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I reworked the Sorcerer which address many of the issues raised in this thread.

Spells that could be improved / better designed

Animate objects is horribly unbalanced. On my Spell Balance spreadsheet I have a different version which I think is more balanced against itself and similar power level spells: Objects come to life at your command. Choose up to six nonmagical objects within range that are not being worn or...
