D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

Okay, fine. You stopped paying for it because it's not worth it to you. Seems like everything is fine now then.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

But we're not talking about you and how you would theoretically deal with it... we're talking about tables for whom there's a player who has fireball and wants to use it. So that's up to the DM to design encounters that let players make use of the actions and spells they have. It doesn't...

D&D General Should Gnomes be Tiny

Beats me. But people are arguing in this thread about whether they should or shouldn't be even though there's no reason to and no legitimate answer is going to come of it.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

No idea. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't care too much about responding to what randos on the internet say about him. Which should be true of pretty much everyone. It's a waste of time and doesn't solve anything because people who want to complain will do so regardless of how incorrect they...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

I mean you're not wrong... but who are these DMs that have decided on only allowing specific products for their particular game but then letting their inexperienced players go in to make PCs under no supervision whatsoever? That just seems rather sill on the DM's part, LOL! I will say though...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

At some point I think the DM just needs to man up and deal with it. ;) Sometimes the DM just has to risk the "oh-so-difficult" situation of sliding 24 counters across a grid every half-dozen sessions just so that the Wizard who loves fireball actually gets a chance to decimate enemies with it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

To me that's not a design problem, that's a DM problem. I suspect we just have a whole crap-ton of not very creative DMs out there. If the DM throws out a horde encounter of low-level foes every dozen or so encounters and the player are bored with that (and yet for some reason aren't bored...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

There's nothing wrong at all with voting with your wallet. Better to just stop paying for it if it isn't worth the money and time anymore than it is to keep paying for it but doing nothing but endlessly complaining about it. Why do that to yourself? It's the same argument against people who...

D&D General Should Gnomes be Tiny

I think everyone that wants Tiny gnomes should find or make up their own rules for them... balance them in whatever manner they are most comfortable with... and then play their games with them. But there's zero reason to want or expect every other person who plays the game to have to follow...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

If WotC wanted to follow the lead of most other video game companies out there... they'd keep Sigil's door open on their coding and let the modding community have at the game. Those folks tend to put in tremendous amounts of work for little to no remuneration, making games work even better and...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Because you both get to do both. I know for me, sometimes when I see something or someone getting crapped on way more than I think it deserves, I'm more than happy to defend it. Because one of the negatives of social media is the pile-on effect-- once it seems like "the group" has decided it's...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

I would assume that because anything that appears in the Free Rules and the 5E24 PHB should be exactly the same... they've got it programmed to default and show the version that they know all players have access to, the Free Rules, when those rules come up. And then it'd be only stuff that...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Based upon the number of times I've played AD&D, 2E, 3E, 3.5E, and 4E following the release of the next game... my books might as well have "disappeared" for all the times I've opened them, LOL! It's like the 4E Character Builder... it's disappeared on me, but I have not felt any loss from it...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

If I had to make a completely uninformed guessimate... a lot of stuff in DDB when doing searches and things look to come up in alphabetical order. So perhaps since 'Free Rules' comes before 'Player's Handbook' that it defaults to that order whenever multiple versions of the same thing appear...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Hey now, let's be fair... WotC only has a 70% preferred rating to go forward with something, not the full 80%. ;)

D&D General What do you want out of your D&D/RPG games?

Very true. My point is really that I prefer when combat comes out of how the roleplaying is going, not to be an activity to do in and of itself. Things happen in the narrative that might necessitate violence... that's perfectly fine... I'm down with that. But what I don't play RPGs for though...
  17. DEFCON 1

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

This is just one of the myriad of downsides of social media. People spend an inordinate amount of time delving way too deep into things they want to maintain a connection to... and when one does that it invariably leads to the realization that other people are indeed different people. There is...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Why would you need to take current employees views on things at all? One needn't listen to any of them (current or former) if one doesn't want to. So there's no need to take either one "more seriously" than the other. They are just people talking... and one hears what they say and then goes...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

But they don't influence you. So whatever other people do at their tables has no impact at what happens to yours. And even if some friend of yours suddenly starts spouting things they've heard from randos online that you don't care for... you can just stop inviting them to your games.
