    Vecna: Themes or Templates?

So is there nothing, or is it just a secret?

    Vecna: Themes or Templates?

Have there been any monster themes or templates published relating to thralls/worshipers of Vecna in 4E? If so, where can I get my hands on 'em.

Why I don't like Wealth by Level guidelines

Using inherent bonuses decouples the +X bonus to hit, damage and the 4 defenses from the players' wealth. In that way, inherent bonuses get you out from under wealth by level guidelines. I would rather WotC have done away with the idea of +X items in the first place. They did not, and...

Why I don't like Wealth by Level guidelines

In 4E the simple solution is to use inherent bonuses. Wealth by level is essentially a point buy system with the purpose of making sure that PC's have stats high enough to survive combat against equal-level opponents, but not so high that they won't be challenged by equal-level opponents...

    Rifts vs D&D

In theory, there's nothing stopping you from doing this. Time travel and genre mashups work great with the RIFTS setting. In practice, you'd have to figure out how to deal with Mega-damage. Your RIFTS PC's will all have MD armor and weapons. Typical antagonists in a sword-and-sandal or...

Needs quite a bit of Dming help!!!

Sit down with the player and write down the Paladin's code. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. I'd suggest a bullet list of 6-10 rules that the Paladin follows. Address topics like the treatment of hostages, the treatment of hostile noncombatants, the use of deceit in pursuit of the...

    Tell me about Dragon Age

I've not played the RPG. I played the video game, and I wasn't overwhelmed. I didn't dislike it, it just felt very familiar. Elves live in the woods, Dwarves live underground, mages live in towers and don't get along with priests, there's a big, generic human city with an elf ghetto...

    Modern Appendix N

China Mieville, less for mechanics than for flavor. I like his emphasis on an urban, industrial fantasy rather than rural, agricultural fantasy. I also like his use of modern political philosophies in fantasy; not because I necessarily agree with his politics, but because I'm ready to move...

Why DMs Don't Like Magic Marts

Frankly, I don't think a typical D&D economy could support a "Magic Walmart" as that term is sometimes used on ENWorld. There would absolutely be trade in magic items. However, items are too expensive, too specialized (I want a +1 keen, flaming burst greataxe; your +1 keen, flaming burst...

    Oots 0780

This is why my first houserule in 3.0 was to give commoners d8 hits per level.

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

Help me with the math, because I don't have my books with me. A wizard starts play owning a spellbook that contains all 0th level spells, 3 1st level spells and an extra 1st level spell for every point of Int. bonus. So a hypothetical Int. 16 wizard has all 0th and 6 1st level spells. Those...

    Diseases?

Is there a good repository/source/archive of 4E diseases? I'm looking to inflict misery and illness on some folks.

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

That's a fair point about the cost of writing the spell into the book, but how much does it really costing? If the 5th level wizard spends 600 gp to put 2 spells in his book, he's got a ton of gold left. And he doesn't need as much gear as most other classes. As for losing the spellbook to a...

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

Yeah, If I'm looking at the right table in 3.5 DMG, a 5th level wizard will have +/- 9,000 gold. He can scribe up a 3rd level spell scroll for 188 gp. That's almost at-will.

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

Wow. I was looking at the SRD, and I'd forgotten how cheap scrolls are. I guess it doesn't much matter how many spell slots you have when you can offload your magic onto paper.

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

So give me details. A 5th Level Wizard with an 18 Intelligence can cast: 4 0 level spells 4 1st level spells 3 2nd levels spells, and 2 1st levels spells What spells does he use to avoid being squished?

    Wizards: Squishy or All Powerful?

The problem with this thread, and the other recent threads on this topic is a lack of detail. What level wizard are we talking about? How were his ability scores generated? What spells does he know? What spells does he have memorized? What equipment is he carrying, including scrolls, potions...

    Rifts vs D&D

On this same theme, the RIFTS books that I remember focused pretty heavily on combat. Monster and NPC's or course got full combat stats. Most of the available equipment was combat-related. Most vehicles were combat-ready. Lots and lots and lots of the creatures in the books are utterly...

Why DMs Don't Like Magic Marts

    1. I thought it was obvious that 3E's magic item economy was a point buy system. There's no questioning it. 2. I generally like the idea of PC's being able to buy and sell magic items with a minimum of fuss and bother. Particularly expendable items and lower leveled stuff. 3. I've come to...

How would you houserule (nerf) magic at high levels.

Theoretically, you could have a game where wizards did more damage and fighters had more defense. I don't 3.X really works that way, though, at least not past level 10 or so.
