D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I mean yeah, there's a reason that GMless(or GM authority spreaded out) is having traction

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

So why are the players even playing then? The GM can just have a bunch of mannequins that'll do whatever they say anyways

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Then we can never agree because I think your approach is terrible and has little to no benefit

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Doesn't seem like a DM is needed when the group itself can just kick them out.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Only if most of the players accept it
  6. GobHag

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Well it's so great that we agree that alignment should only be in the hand of the player and should never-ever have the GM judge it.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Will you complain if I allow another player to be an Artificier-in-fiction but use Warlock mechanics?

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I was being a dick in the latter half--unapologetically however--but considering the large amount of tables that do straight up ignore these rules even when they were 'better' then we've reach the great equilibrious balance for 5e's playerbase; It exists so that those who are used to it don't...

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

Well, at this point, why are you complaining then? Isn't this how 5e works now. If the player wants to do survival sim they can just choose to not get Darkvision and Create food? Seems like self-defeating is your want here

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Why? ALignment is based on character right? And PC's have primacy control over their character no?

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

It is, but also because there's an extra step between non and Darkvision, low light. And one extra step beyond that called Greater Darkness which can only be seen through with greater darkvision. I'd argue that it isn't self-defeating at all, like I said, It's meant and treated like just...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

    1. Because he's angry 2. No, but this one gets it. 3. Your cleric doesn't get one because your cleric is a cleric, you already have enough features. I don't see a single thing wrong in your second paragraph, of course I'll do those things--Why does this guy's accurate sword strike is...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Yeah, the game. The world can be whatever it wants, people can change the setting if they so choose. If you use the Orc statblock for a tough and angry human, what's the harm?

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Honestly? I hope not. Game mechanics are there to be fun to use(or leads to fun) and are usable by their 'user'(Classes for Players and NPC/Monsters for GMs), verisimilitude should be a secondary concern over game feel and mechanical usability+balance.

    So why give then another?

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

Darkness in PF2 has a similar role as a long path filled with rough shrubbery and weeds. It's a challenge where some builds and ancestry can decrease or bypass but it's not like it's a big deal of a challenge either way. Does a game of OSR consider the mental health of the player character or...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I vaguely remember that it was based on 3.5, which made me think it was to 3.5 what Shadowdark was to 5e

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I mean so did 1e /Bx and now those has clones and offshoots. Even DCC which is 3e-like has somehow been assimilated into the OSR space.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

And now there's no one trying to be 3e (Well ACKS is a bit like it I suppose)

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Let's not be too kind to 3rd ed design here--PF2 also abandoned that style of design.
