New playtest and feats...did I miss something?

In your game you could have Fighter necromancers. In my game, I'll keep Pre-reqs. I like how that works. Question - Is the level a Pre-req for a feat? Meaning, with a Cleric, can you take Initiate of the Faith (Level 1) & Herbalism (Level 1), or on a Guardian character take Hold the Line (Level...

New playtest and feats...did I miss something?

Dropping the pre-req doesn't work (at this time, without rejiggering, without house rules) because then you have a fighter that can be a necromancer. (YMMV, you could House rule or change it so anyone can use it, but that's not the case, nor does it make sense to me)

Penny Arcade Podcast with Mike Mearls

keterys, your suspicion is in fact, fact. GenCon - GenCon Players will be able to make D&D Next characters and then run them in an adventure. And if you're lucky (or unlucky), you'll have me as your DM.

    Wandering Monsters: Orcs and Gnolls

I would have liked to have seen more description. Such as the fixation with eye art and removal of eyes and eye patches. Or the shape of their noses. Pig nosed or no nose or what? Fangs, No fangs? etc.

When does D&D stop being D&D?

So RangerWickett, I gather then that D&D is D&D when you are killing things and taking it's stuff with melee weapons in the pre-19th century. I was looking for more rule focused stuff. Your games do sound exciting. Well, this thread was good while it stayed on topic. Thank you to all that...

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Ooooh. Coins. Good one. It definitely would not feel D&D-like without copper and gold pieces.

When does D&D stop being D&D?

SkyOdin says "For the record, I don't think something like "the feel of D&D" exists. That is a purely subjective quality that is undefinable, since I doubt any two people can agree on what it is." I agree. At most 5 people have the same view of D&D (one table) but even then those will have...

When does D&D stop being D&D?

This is absolutely what I'm looking for. I read some threads and I think, "What a horrid idea!" Other threads I read and think, "WOW! How has no one implemented that before?" But neither would help D&D feel like D&D.

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Campbell, then why did you answer? This wasn't a question about the quality of D&D. It was a question about what makes D&D D&D. This doesn't seem to be the discussion for you. @noobdragon, I don't understand what that has to do with the topic. What makes the game D&D the game we know, is the...

When does D&D stop being D&D?

@Lanefan , STR 18/90 (because 18/99 would be cheating). That's quality D&D right there. @RangerWickett , but don't you feel in your DM heart of hearts that you were playing a specific fantasy roleplaying game that wasn't D&D? Aren't there some things that make it D&D? What you described could...

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Good one, @Minigiant . "Magic split into at least arcane and divine portions." From @Remathilis , I heartily agree with "+1 weapon" and "lots and lots of rope." @ComradeGnull , I really liked your summation paragraph. Thank you for contributing.

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Great replies. Thanks so far. I missed ability scores in my list of what makes D&D. And SkyOdin, I particularly liked your statement. but don't you think it takes more than that? Aren't there quite a few games that are fantasy race/class/levels?

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Did you stop playing D&D when Attack Matrixes were removed? Did you feel the last few editions weren't D&D?

When does D&D stop being D&D?

Sacred cows are what some call them. But D&D is what I call it. There are certain things that are D&D. Pure and simple. Daily powers are D&D. Vancian or AEDU. Clerics, Fighters, Wizards & Rogues are D&D. Hit Points are D&D. AC is D&D. Why is it that people want to remove or change these things...

Questions from our sessions (updated for 9/7 session)

I'm good with that. 50% for baseline, "I don't want to do anything else but swing my sword". 70% for "I really want to do a quest to find a +1 sword and we could improvise here and there, and if I take this class with that race...".

Questions from our sessions (updated for 9/7 session)

Still disagree with you on the AC. But I'm glad you're playtesting and your posts are well thought out and well written. My group has done about 8 playtests and we get owned as often as we own. I'm interested to see what you are fighting and what you are rolling. The fighter only has an AC 15. A...

    Are You Still Playtesting?

My favorite posts are from people that have NO INTEREST in 5e and yet are in the 5e forum. Anyway, yes we are loving the D&D Next playtest. We can't wait for character creation. Just last night, we started running through the Isle of Dread using nothing but the playtest information and a little...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want in the first D&D Next adventure path?

Did no one read the Scales of War? It's all about Dragons. An Undead Dragon to finish the Heroic Tier and eventually a fight with multiple dragons and then the Mother of All Dragons, Tiamat shows up. Seriously, Lots of Dragons.
