    New healing potions, and more

Actually, for regaining a healing surge, I might recommend it be a different magic item, not a potion. With an item, it can have a use per day built in, which serves as a limitor to how often it can be use. Of course, how many you hand out is up to you as a DM.

    FR Preview-Sword Mage and Genasi

That's what I've always thought. They should have labeled class rolls as such, to give a better idea of what a class is cabable off. (And I had thought of the same secondary roles too. Though, the strikers seem to be the only ones that seem limited in scope.) As for the Swordmage, responding...

Dragon 365: Codex of Betrayal, Beleth the Witch's Viscount

Wow...Beleth is an evil Genius! Well, for a devil anyways :P Is it wierd to be impressed by something evilll (checks personal alignment....hmm, that doesn't look good). In other news, I'm glad that THIS (aka, dungeon magazines) is where alot of the fluff for campaigns is being released. And...

    Action Point Limits?

So, I'm reading through the PHB, and I understand the normal rules regarding Action Points: Once per encounter. However, there are a couple powers that leave me wondering if they are exceptions to the rule Archer's Glory (Battlefield Archer PP), Defy Death (Fighter), and one other (Combat...

    4e Magic in practice

As far as non combat utility for wizards between the editions, I don't think the gap is as large as some people may see initially. Sure, if you look through the back of the 3.x book, you see a HUGE list of spells. If we ignore damage type spells for a moment, 4E powers that deal no damage...

D&D 4E How would you work pantheon worship using 4e mechanics?

As far as I've read, there is no limit to the number of gods a character can worship, and therefore, no limit to the number of CD feats one can take. It might be excessive to spend that many feats on CD, but I don't see it as unbalancing. I would think it only depends on how strict DM's are on...

Response to recent article by James Wyatt on DMG

However, also keep in mind that Cloth armor is now a integral part of the equipment. So, if you don't want to wear chainmail, but need a AC buff, you can just get a +X shirt. I think they kept shields from getting enhancement bonus to AC to keep those effects from stacking, simple as that.

    TWF warhammers?

How about this one. A dwarven ranger dual wielding picks with hide armor, and he hides out in a bitter cold tundra cave. (no pick feats though :( ) That's a cranky dwarf.

    Reviewing the Artificer

One problem though with that as the basic healing is that it can't be done at range, which is also a stable of our current leader classes. Effective yes, but the Paladin, for example has similar surges for a couple encounters, but they must be in Touch range. To limit the range of some basic...

    The Economy of Actions: Pets

I think part of the problem with Pets in 3.X was that they were subject to the same rules for attacks as regular PC's. At first level, having your pet attack didn't amount to a LOT more time for a round. However, after about levels 6 and up, pets in ADDITION to players got additional attacks...

    Smaller Parties?

I ran a party of 4, and we managed to cover all the roles, so no problems. With smaller parties, it's all about roles really. With three, you can usually have no problems if you drop having a striker. With two, a leader and defender can probably survive a good sized army of their level. If...

    Reviewing the Artificer

Perhaps the encounter healing class feature is a little forced, but for now, WotC 'knows' that it is a proven formula. It's probably why they gave us two uses for it, to see if Curative Admixture is just as effective, less so, or more so. On the one hand, I think a leader needs 'Some' per...

    Anyone make any more potions?

The healing surge requirement, as stated before, is an ideal choice to limit your consumption. Someone with a higher constitution seems to be better able to absorb more chemicals and enhancements into their body. The durations would really be circumstancial, some might have to be till end of...

    Anyone Have Levels for Terrain?

There is one thing in the DMG that might be of use. On page 44, under Forced Movement and Terrain, it gives a table that lists Fall Damage severity by level. It's a cross table of the characters level vs. the length of the fall that will injure, maim, or kill PC's. So, for a 15th level...

    Stealth in Combat

Stealth, I think we've all seen at this point, is a rather vague and wide arching concept in the D&D Universe. But, it also seems that stealth is being used for only a few given instances. Among the various readings on the stealth skill, I would like to point out two things. Perhaps WotC...

    Stealth Flow Chart

I believe you would only roll vs. there passive perception when your NOT incombat (sneaking up on guards, etc, etc). If you in combat, and you disappear, an enemy is GOING to try to find you, unless it's a dumb ass ogre or something *shrugs*

    Stealth Flow Chart

Wow...that, is handy. However, I would add something after that, say on your turn after you've stealthed already. This helps clarify that this is what happens when you make a stealth check as part of any move or attack action. Want to attack someone from stealth *pull out flowchart*

Paragon Paths: Deepwood Sniper and Master Thrower

Ah, I should have been more clear. The action point, shifting half your speed, is similar to the Stormwardens action point ability Stormstep Action. The Master's shift actions is similar to the Beast Master's Action Shift, also a 16th level feature. Both abilities 'seem' balanced enough...
