    The silver standard?

I don't even like the "platinum piece" idea at all. It doesn't fit the pseudo-medieval cultures that D&D usually works around.

Did the internet change your mind?

There are times that the Internet didn't change my mind, but I gave up in an argument and my voice just went away.

    Druid or Cleric?

What about a simple game that isn't using themes?

    Druid or Cleric?

I like the druid class because it isn't being based off of the quasi-Teutonic knight idea that the standard D&D cleric is based on.

How do you like your martial characters?

To be sure, it could be done in 3e (even 4e), but I found that it required a good bit of house rules: * classes available * prestige classes available * spell selection * wealth by level expectations

    1st Edition PH Excerpts: Adventures

Man, I laughed reading that excerpt: one, because of the memories, and two, because of odd writing style, strange rules (determining keen-eared when someone first attempting "listening at doors"), and DM-as-adversary (frustrated with players using invisibility and listening). I am so glad the...

How do you like your martial characters?

So true, so true. Many folks arranged their BECMI, AD&D, and 2e games to feel like they were lingering at a level, by limiting magic items and available spells.

    So, Attacks of Oppportunity?

I definitely don't want a return to some of the nonsensical AD&D rules like "can't shoot ranged weapons in melee". What happens if a PC tries? No one knows, since it isn't possible. Reminds me of a DM ruling I had to make in AD&D when I was 11--a wizard goes to put on a suit of chain mail. The...

    Discussing Iconics

I think Mialee is fine. To be honest, I think "hating Mialee" or "ugly Mialee" is more of an internet meme that folks like to pile onto. I liked iconics quite a bit, and hope they make a return.

What do other RPG designers think?

I voted "indifferent" since I like a fair bit of the direction DDN is going, am indifferent to another chunk, and dislike the rest. I like speed of combats and the character backgrounds/themes, I dislike some of the sacred cows being brought back (or kept), and I am indifferent to modularity.

D&D 5E (2014) On DDI Articles: Please check the News Page first [UPDATE: rule relaxed]

I'm not a fan of moving 5e news to the news forum. In the 5e forum, such articles will receive a more robust discussion. In the news forum, many folks simply won't see it.

D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Wishlist: Bring back XP for GP!

Only taxable gold counts for xp? That seems even more bizarre than xp for gp generally. Also, plenty of player characters don't have causes, tithes, or guilds to donate gold for. The xp for gp system was there as a form of points and scoring. Tournament play goes back to the beginnings of D&D...

D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Wishlist: Bring back XP for GP!

At the same time the AD&D DMG provided those guidelines, it provided random dungeons and encounter tables. There was definitely a mixed message. Of course, the looting of "dungeons" isn't what came up in my games: it was the looting of castles, wizard towers, strongholds, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Wishlist: Bring back XP for GP!

Whether or not those situations happened all the time, they were very common in AD&D, and if you made a dungeon using the suggestions in the DMG, that is exactly what you got.

The monk. It will be mystical most likely

In Forgotten Realms there are several well-described orders of monks, based on the D&D monk class (rather than on Asian mysticism). Greyhawk also has a couple established orders of monks. Monks might not fit in some folks pseudo-Medieval homebrew, but they are established in many campaign worlds.

D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Wishlist: Bring back XP for GP!

In typical, AD&D, dungeoncrawl games, details like that don't often come up. Also, an appeal to semi-realistic economics doesn't work for a lot of games: if adventurers are coming into a city or town with massive amounts of gold, the silver standard is right out the window, and massive inflation...

    How should humans be human?

I like the idea of humans getting the benefit of an additional background--matches the human adaptability angle. Throw in a floating +1 bonus, and we're done.
