    D&D 4E 4e players, why do you want 5e?

Well said. As a 4e player, I want a game with the streamlined rules of 4e (particularly DM stuff), but overall simpler, with some more improv thrown in. This early in the playtest, I don't know if that's the way the game is going. We still have about a year to go.

Healing Fully With Rest - Is It Really That Big of a Deal?

I think the playtest rules already require 1 hp to have a "rest", as defined by the game. I like the rest and heal version of hit points, and it's easy to subtly change the feel of the game without changing the rules much. As others suggested, simply make it difficult to take a good rest. I...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

Having the same number of hit points, a metagame number on a character sheet, makes characters depressingly the same? Depressingly?

    Silver Standard, Equipment and Masterwork

I feel the same. I like the silver standard for D&D games, where gold pieces are not a regular sort of treasure until the characters hit level 3 or 4.

    Boring shields

Perhaps there could be a fighting style/combat training wherein you got an additional bonus to AC for using a shield.

    Boring shields

Alas, another edition wherein shields just aren't that good. Shields should give better AC bonuses, if they are to be compared to armor.

    Wizards: Already Too Strong?

I would be happier if magic missile kept autohit, but was a Vancian spell that did more damage. I would prefer the at-will attack require a hit roll. That would be easy to house rule, I suppose.

    Coup de grace

The DM gets to use common sense to decide on helpless. I like that.

    Save or suck Medusa petrification

In my game, every medusa is THE, original medusa! They all have to be exactly as I remember her being described in a Greek myths book I read in middle school, or in that titans movie.

    Players are the exception.

Player characters are supposed to be exceptional. In fact, the PCs that are everyday blokes that bumble through adventures through luck are normal among their in-game communities, but rare by PC standards.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Yes, I think you are making a lot of sense. Still, I do don't put luck and divine favor exactly into the metagame. In my game, such elements are simulationist. Characters in my fantasy games are aware of those touched by fate, favored by the gods, and so forth. They are actual qualities. The...

    When Fantasy Racism gets stupid

Last minute? The new edition isn't going to be released until 2014.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

I love the explicit, clear return of hit points varied meaning. Also, I like the idea that PCs are "special". An optional rule would be little to no hit point increase with level. The d20 Call of Cthulhu game had that option--immediately switches a high-fantasy game to a very gritty one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Restrictions in D&D Next

If restrictions are so easy to remove without affecting game balance, then why have them at all? The game should provide archetypes and suggestions. Particular game worlds should have particular restrictions, perhaps.

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

Neither I nor the post I was referring to was about "at-will blasty magic", but simply about having at-will magic of any type. The WotC design team have already said they are including at-will magic of some type. I and many others think it's a great idea, and are glad that the design team is...

    Skills... WoTC Blog Post

I take offense, by the way. That was a pointless comment. The post was saying that the game should not have options that seem fine but actually don't work out in-game. Sub-optimal options should be made clear, not prohibited. The point was made clearly, and I agree with it.

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

It looks as though the folks that want low-level wizards to have almost no magic won't like the new edition. Since the majority of those folks are already using house-rules in their games, I guess they will just have to house-rule away some minor at-will magic in 5e. The design team has made...
