Have fantasy novels gotten "better" since D&D?

Maybe, but I'm not sure it was just D&D. I would say more offten then naught, D&D is connected to alot of the pulp that the gamers read. If D&D is effecting good books, its because its authors are seeing what NOT to do based on the old boreing same old same old.

LoTR: One Book To Rule Them All?

Why do people keep doing this. Tolkien only brought out what was already there, he did it during a time when fantasy was looke down upon by most of the reading world...and only after a long time, long time, did his work gain apreation. Nothing of his world, excpet for the islands of Middle Earth...

Have you ever seen a wizard not maxed out?

Yes and no. Yes, because when I DM, I dont make every wizard the best...I also dont load him up with every spell he'll ever need like some players do. You know the types, they have every attack spell, but complain when they can't fly. I would always that wizards are smart, but they dont have to...

What are your thoughts on ANIME's influence on D&D?

Well, only seen it a few times. Mostly it was with those who were playing MONKS, they wanted to be like GOKU, or some other flying godlike anime character. I've also seen it with weapons...pepople wantto use things to large, or filled with numerous effects lilke somone in an anime: and they were...

    Races have become too cliche?

I agree to a point. I think, for a while, all gamers play these types of heroes, however, after some time, things change and gamers evolve. If they don't, then it's tiresome (people who play the characters you're talking about, play things like Drizzt and the other cardboard cutout types from...

    the concept of time (dungeoncrawling)

Well, the players can't know the time, unless you know the time. As the DM you must be aware of the hours inwhich the story is moving through. To aid you, keep notes, time things, keep telling the players the position of the sun, or how low the light is getting. If the players are moving across...

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

I'm glad you've seen the MOVIE, but in the book, the evles never showed up, they were fighting a battle of their own by the time the fellowship showed up in the realm of the Lady of the WOOD, when Helms Deep came, it was just men and the two none men who came with Aragorn..and when they fought...

A Star Wars question for all out there Wiser in the Force than I

ok...watching the movie the other day, ya know, the first of the new ones. Anways, they talked about the Jedi Trials....but I've no idea what these are, and what exactly are the requirements...or the tests involved. SO, I'm asking. If you know, tell me, and list how a Jedi movies from becoming...

I need a PDF file for Wheel of Time

Yes, I know, it didn't do well, but I'd like to find a downloadable PDF file from the first gaming book: The Wheel of Time Role Playing Game. When I find it online, its like 40 or much more, if anyone out there happens to have a file I can get, or knows where I can download it..let me know. I'm...

    Why do you love/hate Drizzt?

Well, like I've said, I don't read it, and only know it because of a friend of mine. And, if not for this thread, I'd never talk about Drizzt. The prob I have is with R.A's inability to maintain a steady growth, now you say that the power level issue isn't a big deal. Well, it is; it speaks of...

Where does "Bardic Knowledge" Come From?

bards are bookworms with a little more flavor, their means of gathering knowledge, which is made up of lore, myth, and legend *and each are differnt from the other* come to them in countless ways. I would assume the others would be: Off hand knowledge you picked up from people while moving...

The Will to Power: Where do your rulers come from?

Unless your playing in a single nation, or a small world, I would say all of the above. I play in big settings, with massive areas, and numerous countries...therefor, there are many different ways that organization is found, and that's what gives the game flavor. With out differences, the...

Is RAISE DEAD (etc.) too readily available in most D&D campaigns?

True, I see your piont. But I don't go for the throat always. When throwing a fireball, or any of the others that you've mentioned, my PC's might miss, use the attack for more drama then outright death. And I dont always use the Kill Spells, I dont load down all of my villians with al lthe...

    Why do you love/hate Drizzt?

You’re right, all I know is what a friend of mine has told me, and he's read all the books. So thank you on that, now I know that attempts have been made to kill the one drow that's making a bad name for all other drow. But to what someone else has said, Drizzt fails all the time, its like R.A...

    Mixing Races....and why DM's shouldn't allow it

Ok yeah, that right there is my prob: human/fiendish half-dragon...mixed with a vampire. This is the stuff i was talking about, now half-elves, half-orcs and the standard like. When I think of halfbreeds, I think more of the biological ability to mate. yes, divine beings can, and in legends...
