I don't get the dislike of healing surges

Thanks for implying that I'm offended, but of course that's just a rhetorical duck-and-weave with no basis in fact; you're talking to a guy who has no dog in the hunt. What you dismiss as a "semantic game" I consider basic good manners, which is something I consider neither "out-worn" nor...

    Home-brewing Rules

This is all over the map. Making rulings during the game, allowing splat books, and creating house rules aren't the same thing, in my experience, but in the post and the poll, these seem to me to be conflated into the same thing. Yes, I make rulings during the game; it's one of the reasons I...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

No need to apologize to me or anyone else for what you don't like in a roleplaying game. And I appreciate you expressing it that way, as a reflection of your person preference. Unfortunately there are some gamers who can't or won't differentiate between, "I don't like x," and, "x is teh suxxors!"

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

Newer != better. Yes, really. Newer != better. And "I don't like it" != "bad." Never heard of Saint George? As far as healing surges go, they are a solution for someone else's problem, not mine.

To Fudge or not to Fudge...

I don't put my finger on the scales of Fate.

What is a character to you?

Yup. You can roleplay without playing a game, and you can play a game without roleplaying; a roleplaying game specifically includes both.

Does it end with a TPK?

It's the final end of their story. The game goes on. Your "re-try" begins with a blank character sheet.

What is your "perfect" sized gaming group?

It depends on the game I'm running. Some campaigns work better with a smaller number of players - espionage or swashbuckling, frex - and others are more fun with a band of merry men, like the classic dungeon crawl. So, one size doesn't fit all.

    *DING!* Winnah!

    Wrecking Classic Adventures

You have a standing invitation to join any game I ever run.

    Why we need new monsters

One need only look at our own history to know that humans are the scariest monsters of all.

What is a character to you?

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. I don't play to be the passive observer of my character. I play because I enjoy putting myself in the shoes of my character.

What is a character to you?

My character is a little tweeting bird chirping in a meadow. My character is a wreath of pretty flowers which smell bad.

Monte Cooks First Legends and Lore

This is pretty close to how Flashing Blades handles it. Ever since 1984, in fact. Remind me again why these guys get paid to re-invent the wheel?

    Good DM's?

Try to imagine my surprise. ;) I meant the whole of Jon_Dahl 's post. There's nothing "wrong" with it; there's also nothing "right" with it, either. It's a playstyle preference, one that has both upside and downside. I "darn well better have that kind of content"? Seriously, Janx? Let's say...

What's stopping WOTC from going back to 3.5?

How sad is it that I read that and thought, "Hey, I could make a fun game out of those!"? Please add me to your pre-release mailing list. And the irony of ironies, of course, is that I don't play (1) 3.5 or (2) any other fantasy roleplaying games, outside of an annual old school con. But they...

What's stopping WOTC from going back to 3.5?

Well, I was turned into a newt. Does that qualify?
