    2 advantages versus 1 disadvantage

It seems very clear to me too, but the other way! If you have advantage from multiple sources, you still only have advantage. If you have disadvantage from multiple sources, you still only have disadvantage. So if you have advantage from any number of sources and disadvantage from any number...

    Backgrounds & Themes

No, we'll have more base classes—at least that's the plan at the moment. For example, look at the articles they've posted about their design goals for the Fighter, for the Paladin, for the Wizard, etc. And I'm happy with it working like that. A sorcerer would have to work mechanically so...

    Let's read the entire run

Cool, I'll stick around here then! You're coming up to the first Dragon Magazine I ever bought, so I'll have some stuff to say then :)

    Save or suck Medusa petrification

Why couldn't you partially turn to stone or slowly turn to stone? Your fingers turn cold and unresponsive, locking around whatever you're holding, but your heart's still beating and you can still swing your arms. Your body stiffens as your joints harden, but with difficulty you can hobble away...

(un)reason, do you get more responses here or at RPG.net? If it's at RPG.net, I'll unsubscribe here and subscribe over there.

    Save or suck Medusa petrification

(emphasis added) In 3E at least, the saving throw to avoid petrification is a Fortitude one—the save used to resist physical effects on the body. When two people meet a medusa's gaze, the tougher one is more likely to resist being turned to stone. How could that effect be anything other than...

D&D 5E (2014) Playtesting D&D Next: Reapers, Cantrips, Turnings, Rests...

I sure hope so! It's definitely something they're considering with regards to the art direction—as discussed in Dragon's Eye View.

    Negative initiative numbers

I do like the idea about adding 20 instead of subtracting 20 for initiative: it does make the maths easier. One thing to keep in mind is that it does affect monsters entering the fight half-way through. Under the current rules, an orc band that bursts in halfway through a fight against some...

    Negative initiative numbers

That's my interpretation too. But it isn't strange to me. Initiative only matters relative to others in the combat: An orc at -10 and a fighter at 5 is no different to an orc at 1 and a fighter at 16.

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

You could leave a comment on one of his posts asking him to get in touch with you. Otherwise, using his writing as an inspiration sounds good. A Kickstarter sounds great! That could be a lot of fun. You mentioned that you're planning to run the D&D playtest in the Shrouded Lands. I've given...

    Save or suck Medusa petrification

The problem with Save or Suck powers is that their very extremism encourages work-arounds. Everyone in a fight against the medusa is going to avert their eyes, because the alternative is too extreme. The result? No one is in any danger of turning to stone. Even if people are surprised or do...

    D&D 5E (2014) Where is D&D Headed Next (Wired.com)

EDIT: Nevermind, beaten to the punch by Minigiant himself!

    My grievance with D&D races

I think you and I probably use D&D in quite different ways. You seem to approach it as a toolbox for playing all sorts of fantasy games, whereas I see it as a set of rules for playing a narrow sub-genre of games. Since you brought up Star Trek, I guess the closest analogy for me is Star Wars...

    Let's read the entire run

I remember Baulder's Gate II (from the same game company) had oodles of details about different magic items and the sort. To be honest, I prefer a game to keep its flavour limited and targeted: I want to know that what I'm reading is relevant and targeted. It's different in a tabletop RPG...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Although we're noncommercial at the moment, all our content can be used commercially by any person. If we incorporated his work into our work under the CC BY-SA licence, then we'd be effectively removing the noncommercial part of his CC BY-NC-SA licence. We can't legally do that. We could...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Well, my first and most important note is that the CC licence Rolang uses—CC BY-NC-SA—is incompatible with our CC BY-SA licence. We might be able to convince him to license that post under CC BY-SA as well or, even better, relicense his entire blog as CC BY-SA. The locations for his works that...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

I've updated the appendices! Thanks for the reminders of the vegetation. I've also included a new section on ley lines.

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

The appendices are updated. I've created a couple of new categories: Vegetation and Organisations. So far, each has one entry (razorgrass and the Company of the Silver Flame), so remind me of vegetation and organisations we've already established! And now, an entry to resolve another conflict...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

I think the Doge, Duke and the Weeper's family are all good candidates for entries—if we're doing rulers than the Bloodied King should probably get a mention. A long time ago, chutup (I think it was) proposed connecting hexes in the Shrouded Lands to dungeons that have been published elsewhere...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Looks great, chutup. Maybe mention the two dwarf gods the Drinker of Iron and the Speaker to Bronze? Also, you don't have a racial entry for the dwarves. Maybe mention their aversion to revealing their genders in public (or is that just the dwarves of Titan's Skull?)
